I’m a bit late on this one (not too late luckily, the closing time is midnight tonight) but I have been thinking about it for a while. I have really enjoyed reading some of the other entries, there are some really funny and many heart warming ones out there. I guess that’s what has put me off writing my own for a while – the competition is fierce!
So, what makes me happy?
It’s not as easy a question as it looks on the surface. I could go for the somewhat ‘easy’ option of family, friends, my boyfriend – all of which make me very happy. But me being me, I didn’t want to write about them – seemed to predictable. So I started thinking about other things that make me happy – food (makes me very happy), sunshine (again, very happy), sleep (love it) – but none of these felt quite worthy enough of a blog-essay about what makes me happy.
But then I decided I was being a bit too dismissive – how can I honestly deem my friends/family and boyfriend not worthy of being raved about on my blog for making me happy. Even food, sunshine and sleep – all pretty simple pleasures, but they do the job! And come on, I write a beauty blog – I’m hardly going to write about reading the Financial Times and some Greek philosophy making me happy! (Although I did study philosophy – so that’s probably a bad example…) but anyway….
Back to what makes me happy. I decided, after probably a bit too much thought that these things/people are what makes me happy – simple pleasures and the people that matter to me. Spending time with my friends/family/boyfriend, seeing the Sunshine – especially in London as it makes everything look lovely. Even Holloway, where I lived for over two years but isn’t the *nicest* area, actually looks almost pretty in the sun.
Eating, unfortunately for my waist-line this is pretty much my favorite social activity. My closest friends know me well enough to not even dare to ask if I want to share a garlic bread with cheese at Pizza Express and this makes me very happy.
Last but not least, sleep – I love it. It’s probably a sign I’m getting a bit older but I do love an early night or a weekend nap. Or any nap that I can get away with, generally. Hardly a rock star life, but I do love some good sleep!
So there we have it. It’s probably not going to win any prizes for inspirational writing – but it’s a little bit about me and about the things in life that make me happy. Simple as they are.
I also realise that I haven’t mentioned my blog in this at all. This is intentional, as to me – it goes without saying that blogging and all the friends/experiences/hard work that come with it makes me happy. If it didn’t, then I wouldn’t keep doing it.
Happy birthday Louise – hope you have a good one!
The competition is open till midnight tonight (9th June) and it’s her birthday tomorrow – so why don’t you drop by the blog and wish her a happy day! Oh, and find out how you can enter for yourself.
