Mascara, my favourite beauty product out there. Throw in a luxe touch of YSL glam and I’m hooked.
YSL Shocking mascara has the glossy gold appeal that you want to show off from your make-up bag. I love the scrawled across ‘Shocking’ on the tube – it makes the glossy gold feel young, when gold packaging can often be associated with slightly older make-up brands – YSL have kept it fresh.
The brush is a twisted helix shape, with short bristles that are softish, but short. The short bristles mean that there can be quite a lot of product on the brush. Because of this it took me a little bit of effort to get the hang of using this – it can be clump central, or it can be super glam lashes.
Once I got the hang of it though I am in love – I don’t normally choose such a dramatic style of mascara. I tend to prefer the fat, fluffy brushes that deliver volume and length together. But check out the ‘after’ shots – the lashes are super dramatic, plus liquid liner and I have a pretty impressive set of lashes going on!
My only tiny niggle with this mascara is how heavily scented it is, it has a very floral scent that does irritate me a bit straight after application -but after a while it vanishes.

I really want this but I was put off by a pushy salesperson on the counter. What makes it different from YSL Faux Cils?
This mascara looks amazing! As much as I love my Lancome Hypnose, I really want to give this one a try xx
Wow – that’s fantastic – I might have to get some, my eyelashes are naturally dead straight so I need something really good.
What’s the formula like? Is it quite a wet mascara, like the original Faux Cils? I used it for a while but I just found that it would make it onto my eyelids more often than not because it was such a wet mascara.
Wow that;s quite an effect, may have to try.x
This looks amazing! Want!
Amazing! I must have it!
This mascara looks very good. its perfect to use whilst taking a break in between semi permanent eyelash extensions.
