A beauty junkie in London…is getting married!

If you follow me on twitter you probably already know this, or of course if you know me in real life – but I figured there are probably a fair few people who read this but don’t know. But yep, I’m engaged and in the early stages of attempting to plan a wedding. In fact, I can’t believe I’ve already been engaged for nearly three months, how fast is 2013 going?!

As I said on my ‘50 Random Facts About Me‘ post, I’m not great at putting much personal stuff on here – and for that reason I have um-ed and ah-ed over blogging about being engaged and starting to plan a wedding. But then, when I started to get into the details and have a bit of an ‘this is a bit overwhelming’ moment, I thought blogging about it would actually be a big help – considering the audience of a beauty blog is going to be   majority female, there will (hopefully) lots of people out there who can relate and offer tips, or who might be in the same boat now and might find it interesting/helpful to read about someone else’s experiences!

I promise I’m not going to turn this into a wedding blog, the posts are unlikely to be all that frequent – especially as the potential date (still TBC) is over 18 months away. But I thought I’d just put this out there and see if there’s anyone reading who is perhaps also planning a wedding, or got married recently or even just loves a good wedding!

The low down on the wedding plans so far are pretty basic: we want something very relaxed, in Summer (fingers crossed for the weather) with a fairly small group of family and close friends. Going for quite an informal/BBQ in the garden style approach – but other than ideas (thanks to  a couple of packed Pinterest boards and a growing stack of wedding mags) we’re very much finding our feet in the slightly bonkers world of wedding planning!

The number one tip I’ve heard from both friends, family and general wedding blogs etc for planning a wedding is to remember it’s your day, and to do what you want. So that’s what we’re trying to stick to! Hopefully it will be a wonderful day, but at the end of it all – the whole point is for it to just be the first day of spending forever with someone you love. I think it’s pretty important to remember that when you could be drowning in what colour bow to put on a napkin or some other teeny detail.

For now this is just a little intro post ahead of some potential wedding related ones that will pop up now and then! If you have any questions, tips, advice – anything! Please do leave a comment or drop me at tweet @beautyjunkieldn

Lovely news – have been reading your blog for a while but this is my first comment! I had my wedding in June – my top tip is to try not to worry about the small things and ply your guests with lots of fizz!! We had horrendous weather yet no one seemed to notice and we had an amazing day! Good luck with the planning – there are tons of fab blogs out there to give you lots of inspiration and tips for suppliers. x

    Gorgeous ring!
And congratulations on getting married – I got married last May and I can’t stress enough the importance of what you already heard: IT’S YOUR DAY!!! We had a lot of people at our wedding and that was even without extended family and a lot of my family not being able to come but we wanted all our friends there and it was amazing…you will likely never have them all together again!

The number of people proofed the most difficult aspect of planning so we kept everything else simple enough – I didn’t bother about my bridesmaids’ dresses – they all looked stunning in dresses they chose themselves. I only colour-coordinated groom/best man’s ties, my scarf, shoes, hair accessory, bouquets and nail polish (haha!) – no extra fuffing about with chair covers etc. We had a lovely relaxed ceremony as it wasn’t in a church and I wasn’t wearing a full on white wedding dress.

I could go on for ages so please feel free to email me (hazel81(at)gmx.de for advice. Keep “unimportant” things simple as even then there are numerous details to plan.

    I found this website helpful:

If you get registered you can upload your guests/gifts/etc and they have a VERY helpful to do list which you can adjust/add dates etc.

    Have fun!
