For one week only (16th-22nd December) John Lewis Oxford Street is offering a fantastic masterclass session with the experts at the Laura Mercier counter on the ‘New Nude’ – which is basically the real essential flawless face, with everything from the essential skincare prep through primer, foundation, concealer, powder…then on to adding some colour.
I’ve had the chance to give the masterclass a little preview trial and wanted to give you a little run down of what the session involved and the finished look.
The session started with a bit of a skincare routine, removing any make-up already on. Plus hydrating to prep skin and leave it feeling ready for make-up. The two key skincare bits that really stood out to me were the eye products – a repairing serum and a hydrating cream, that together really did work instant wonders. Loved these two and they’re now top of my lust-list.
Then post skincare it’s on to the primer and foundation stages – choosing the radiance primer, as after a few late nights and a busy week I needed all the help I needed to get some glow. Then for the base the MUA chose to use the much-loved Silk Cream Foundation which I can vouch for as amazing – good coverage, but feels light and still manages to look natural. The concealer was a bit of a process…with a corrector being used on redness and blemishes and then the Secret Concealer (a creamier texture) being used for the under-eye area – this was then set with a smooth focus setting powder to keep in place and add a bit of radiance.
The cheeks were a very natural, browny-peachy shade of cream blush called Canyon plus a touch of the paler bronzer shade.
The eyes were my favourite part of the colour phase with the eye caviar crayon in ‘Amethyst’ being used, with just a touch of Coffee Ground to add some shadow/depth. The brows were touched up with the pencil in ‘Ash Blonde’ and finally a touch of lip colour added with the Sheer Lip Colour in Bare Lips.
Overall, I really liked the look – with the stand out bits for me being the skincare (the eye serum and cream are now on my wish-list) the foundation and the caviar eye colour. Laura Mercier is definitely a brand I want to play with more in 2014 as the textures and colours are right up my alley… any recommendations for shades or products to try please let me know!
The New Nude Masterclass is available at John Lewis Oxford Street all this week (16th-22nd)
