Topshop Beauty is one brand that I’m always excited to see what their latest launches are – it’s not the biggest range, or even the one with the most innovative products. But what it does, it does really well – I’ve not tried a product yet from them that I haven’t been impressed by. Plus the packaging always sucks me in as it’s so cute (I spotted that they’re selling a Topshop Beauty nail varnish phone cover… I may need to buy it – never mind these Chanel ones, for me it’s all about the cute colours and the polka dot lids).
A package recently arrived on my doorstep with a few of the new launches from the brand, so I have had a play (how can I resist a blue nail varnish?!) and here’s what I think…
The three new products are.. a new nail varnish shade, in a gorgeous duo-chrome blue called ‘Blue on Blue’, a pinky/mauve lip cream (creamy gloss) called ‘Double Take’ and the ‘Gloss Ink’ for lips in a shade called ‘Relentless’ that looks pretty much neon, but applied is an orange toned red gloss/stain.
The Nail Varnish: Blue on Blue* (£6)
A gorgeous colour in the bottle and on the nail, on one coat it looks a bit pants – but two to three is really strong. The picture is three coats, just to be on the safe side (you know those times when you do two and then see it in different light and realise it’s still a bit sheer around the edges?!). The colour is a rich blue with a hint of a purple duo-chrome to it. Quite a statement colour as it’s both bright and metallic when on the nail – but a definite winner. Overall, the quality of Topshop polishes has always been really consistent in my opinion and this is no different.
The Lip Cream: Double Take* (£7)
A lip cream – what on Earth is one of those I hear you cry. Actually, I don’t but I’m going to tell you anyway. It’s basically the creamy look of a lipstick, but applied like a gloss and with a lighter weight finish than a lipstick – but without the stickiness of a gloss, but with a lot of the shine. Sort of like a younger version of a lipstick, or a grown up version of a gloss… if you know what I mean?! The shade is one I wasn’t all that excited about at first, as I don’t tend to lean towards the more purple-toned shades – but when applied I actually really liked it. But the main selling point of this product is the formula – it does really nail the whole lipstick/gloss hybrid category.
The Gloss Ink: Relentless* (£8)
Another sort of lip hybrid product, this is part gloss, part stain – a bit more translucent than the lip cream and more grown-up with the black matte packaging. It feels really light to apply, leaves lips with bright colour (as you can see) that is glossy, but not at all sticky and long lasting. I would compare these to the YSL Glossy Stains, but the texture is really quite different – where the YSL feels quite watery and almost like you forget it’s on when applied these don’t quite feel *that* lightweight – but the colour payoff is intense and it does sit in that ‘stain’ sort of category as the colour holds on the lips really well – especially if you blot to give it a matte finish. Although I did also find that it transferred to my teeth a bit too – probably my fault for not doing the whole ‘finger in the mouth, pull out’ trick (is it just me, or does that sound rude?). For me, this colour is AMAZING (so good it deserves all capitals) – one of those bright red/orange combo shades that I really like on my skintone, plus I find that is makes my blue eyes stand out – always a plus.
There’s a little round up of the new bits from Topshop Beauty… anything catch your eye!?
