This is one of those Summer collection that had me ‘ooh-ing’ out loud when I first saw it – the combination of the softer muted shades and the brights is quite unusual and as I already know I really love the Barry M Gelly Formula, I knew I was going to like the Barry M Gelly Summer Shades 2014. Ranging from a creamy white, through murkey grey-ed out pastels to colour pop blue and pink… there’s quite a range and quite a contrast in there. The olive and mauve shades are definitely quite unusual for Summer shades – but I like them! Then I’m always a total sucker for a blue nail varnish…
Taking the shades from left to right we have: Coconut (creamy white), Almond (taupe/mauve), Olive (olive…duh), Elderberry (pale blue), Kiwi (bright green), Damson (bright blue) and Pink Punch (bright pink). Quite a contrast from the shades on the left to the shades on the right, no?
The first one of these to stand out to me is probably the least stand-out in the photos and that’s Coconut – this is a fantastic shade if you love the white nail look but maybe don’t want to look like you just painted them with tipex? It’s just the right balance between cream and white and much more flattering than a white-white shade can be. Brighter than a nude nail, but a bit softer than a pure white shade – love this colour and it was the first one I applied and wore.
The next stand out to me was Damson – the bright, bright blue shade. As I said, I am a sucker for a blue nail and this is about as perfect a bright blue as you can ask for. It’s not entirely dissimilar to the the Barry M Blue Grape shade (can be seen here in my top five blue nail shades post) but as I said, once a sucker for blue…always a sucker for blue.
Quality wise, these Gelly formula polishes really do take some beating – they are cheap, but apply like a dream and leave a glossy finish (although I still pop a top coat on purely for drying time and to give a little extra wear out of the colour).
I really like the Almond, Olive and Elderberry shades – all similar tones of different colours and think Elderberry would be my most worn of these. The ones I’m probably least likely to wear would be Kiwi, I love blue and turquoise, but green just doesn’t really work for my skin tone.
For me – this is a fab collection with lots of lovely shades. My top picks would be Coconut and Damson.
