I love neon nails – I don’t know if it’s the fact that I am approaching the big 3-0 or what, but I am definitely having some sort of wannabe-teen regression… wearing Nike Airs, using rainbow hair chalks and now having a bit of a love affair with neon nails too… next thing you know I’ll be trying to wear a crop top and skateboard or whatever else it is the kids are doing nowadays (have I made myself sound sufficiently old now?). Well, my ageing issues aside – I am loving this OPI Neon Collection. So bright, they look like they’re glowing.
First things first I have to mention the white ‘Put a coat on’ natual nail base coat shade. This is a clever little addition as it’s a bit of a trick that if you add a white base coat to a neon shade it ‘pops’ that bit more than it does when applied to a natural nail base. A clever, but simple trick to make your neon shades really glow. Plus it would actually make quite a nice white nail colour on it’s own…
For these swatches, as I was using a white nail wheel I didn’t use the white base coat as the nail wheel colour has the same effect – so the shades as shown are pretty much how they would look when applied over a white base coat. From having a look at some other blogger swatches online I think there is one shade missing from the collection as shown here (an orange called ‘Juice Bar Hopping’). But the other shades are:
Purple Neon ‘Push & Pur-Pull’
Pink Neon ‘Hotter Than You Pink’
Coral Neon ‘Down to the Core-al’
Yellow Neon ‘Life Gave Me Lemons’
Green Neon ‘You are so outta Lime!’
I do love the OPI product names… always a bit fun. In terms of application, two coats does it with all of these – and I’d say they’re all definitely bright, with the ‘Push and Pur-Pull’ being the least ‘glowing’ one of the bunch, and probably the ‘safest’ option if you want something less ‘turn and stare’.
My personal favourite is the Coral Neon – love this for Summer and planning to use this on my toes for an upcoming Barcelona trip. I do love the brightness of the yellow and green, but probably will be too ‘safe’ to wear them! The pink and purple are also great, but it’s the coral that has my heart from this bunch.
