New Hair: George Northwood

George Northwood’s salon is probably the most Pinterest-worthy salon I’ve ever been to. Which is pretty fitting, as it was via the folk at Pinterest that I discovered the salon as it was the venue for an event they were holding. I unfortunately couldn’t make the event but they were kind enough to invite me down to the salon another time to get my hair done and so…that’s what I did!

I headed there this week without all that much of a plan of what I wanted. It was just on the morning that I headed to my usual source of inspiration that is Pinterest to have a little search for some hair ideas. You can see my ‘hair’ board if you like > Beauty Junkie in London Pinterest. With the first two on the board (at time of posting) being the two I was leaning towards for the latest ‘do.

Having gone to the darker side at the end of last year, I have really liked it. I wasn’t sure if it was for me long term, but so far – it’s sticking. This time around though I did switch it up a little and go darker all over but then adding more blonde bits around the front. Which is pretty much a happy medium for me between dark and light. Kat took care of my colour and I couldn’t be more delighted with the result – it was exactly what I was hoping for.

Cut wise I went a bit shorter again – I actually overheard at the salon (a journalist was getting her hair done in the chair next to me) that apparently women tend to get their hair cut in times of prosperity?! Interesting idea really – perhaps because short hair needs more frequent trims to maintain and that means more hair appointments needing to be paid for?! True on not, it was interesting to hear! Stephen (who looked after the cut side of things for me) then styled it perfectly into loose waves using the ghd curve wand – which I am now really keen to try myself as it was just so quick and the waves lasted so well!

Another thing that meant the George Northwood experience got a bit thumbs up from me was the drinks and snacks on offer. Yes, this may make me totally shallow – but if you offer me a glass of coke plus a little pot of popcorn to nibble on whilst I get my hair done then that makes me a very happy girl. They actually had a whole menu of snacks and drinks on offer – including healthy ones – which is great. Anyone who has been in a long hair appointment will probably appreciate the value of a menu of snacks being available. Oh and also – the salon has wifi too. Yet another big tick of approval from me.

Overall, I am absolutely delighted with the experience and my new ‘do courtesy of George Northwood’s amazing team. Now, just excuse me whilst I try and learn how to style my hair as well as they did whilst also pinning the salon photos as new living room decor inspiration…
