Revlon have a new range of lipsticks out and I think they’re going to be a bit of a game changer in the highstreet UK market. These are the Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick and the main special thing about them is that the lip colour pigment is in clear gel rather than wax meaning two things – one that the pigment that shows is a truer colour and two that they have a lighter feel on the lips.
The texture of these really does feel quite different – cosmetics formulas are advancing all the time and this is definitely going to be one of the first in a new generation of gel rather than wax based lipsticks. It just applies feeling more like a smooth balm than a highly pigmented lipstick and when on the lips is easy to forget – unlike many lipsticks that progressively leave my lips feeling more and more dry as the day goes on!
There are a total of 14 shades in the collection and above I have five of them to give you an idea of the colour pay off from the nudes, to pinks to brighter fuchsia and reds. The shades above (left to right) are: 815 Sweet Pea, 830 Rose, 840 Poinsettia, 845 Peony and 810 Orchid. All with strong colour pay off and a bit of a balmy sheen to them. Of course if you’re more of a matte-lip fan then these aren’t for you. But personally, this is just my sort of thing – bright colour, but hydrating at the same time.
To launch the lipsticks Revlon recently held a really fun event at a photo studio in London where they did hair and make-up and then I had the chance to have a little pro photo shoot. Now, if you know me at all you will know I’m really awkward in front of a camera and generally manage to either smile like a loony or have a severe case of resting bitch face. But this shoot was so much fun I could totally have stayed there posing away for hours (plus it also taught me I have terrible posture…so trying to correct that as I type…!) But here’s the final shot – snazzily edited to show each of the lip shades in action!
What do you think of the look of these new Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick shades? On both texture and shades I’m loving them – with my personal favourite being Rose and Orchid (of the selection here).
The Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick range launches April 2015.
