So there’s a new nail brand over on our UK shores and it’s one I’m pretty darn excited about. This is Smith & Cult – a brand I first spotted in the pages of Allure a while ago, then it started to pop up on Eva Chen’s instagram and I just knew I needed it in my life. On trips to New York I’ve always tried to track it down – just look at it. The polish could come out like water and I’d want them just for the bottle alone. A little peek at a few colours – plus a closer look at Smith & Cult Doe My Dear
These babies are like little paper weights. They’re quite chunky – with glass bottles plus pretty hefty gold lids too. The lids are sort of bent and mis-shapen, which gives them the unique look. They are all unique too – some are more distorted than others. I love the bottle style. As I type they’re sitting next to me on my desk in pride of place because they’re just too pretty to be put away.
Shade wise I ave five to play with – but I’m starting with just one. The taupe/grey shade is Doe My Dear. The other shades shown are: Pillow Pie (pale pink), Faunt-leroy (lilac), Plastic Beach (coral-ish pink) and Cut the Mullet (turquoise blue).
I couldn’t resist getting Doe My Dear straight on my (in very bad condition) nails. I can see how moving house has really taken it’s toll on my hair/skin/nails right now. Am totally dehydrated all teh time and my cuticles are a dry mess. Any miracle solutions let me know!? I heard about a new cuticle mask that I was interested in?! I’ve been mostly relying on Clarins Blue Orchid Oil to rehydrate and attempting to replace diet coke with more water…
In October I’m actually going to give a skin supplement a go – it can’t have a much worse starting point to measure from!
Anyway, bad skincare aside… back to the gorgeousness that is Smith & Cult. Seriously excited for this brand to be available in the UK now – there are SO many colours on my wish list right now. Starting with ‘She said yeah’ (a pretty cornflower) and Beat Street (exclusive to Net A Porter – a bright turquoise)…I won’t bore you with the full list.
Quality wise, Doe My Dear is good – the picture above is two coats – they apply very smoothly but definitely do need the full two coats. I need to try the others to see how they fare too. The formula is 5-Free – which means it’s free from Dibutyl, Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor.
Each polish is £19, so not the cheapest out there but for sheer pretty they’re worth it.
Smith & Cult Nail Polish * available from Net-a-Porter (£19) plus is launching in Space NK & Selfridges soon.
*PR sample or gift.
