A couple of weeks ago I blogged about the pretty exciting collaboration where Essie has teamed up with Rankin for the essie Colour portraits campaign. Where renowned photographer Rankin is working with the brand to shoot portraits, featuring your perfectly manicured nails – something they opened up as a competition so everyone can enter. For more info on this see my previous post – with all the info on how you can take part for the chance to have their portrait shot by him. Pretty exciting. Oh, that and to take some pretty snaps of the essie Spring collection 2016.
So last Monday I headed to Rankin’s studio to have MY portrait shot by him. YES. THE RANKIN TOOK MY PHOTO. AND he made me look good. Definitely a pretty amazing Monday and so much fun. For about 24 hours after the shoot I kept thinking of fun poses I could do with my hands to show off my nails….
But the fun portrait taking part aside, the main point of this post is to take a little peek at the new Essie collection which I got to take a look at at the shoot and take home to play with. It’s a fun collection with a mix of some nude shades along with some rich toned colours – a nice little twist on the typical Spring offerings of pastels – with fresh colours but a richer tone to each of them than you most often see for Spring.
The colours (left to right) are:
Sunshine State of Mind (bright reddy orange), Pool Side Service (tealy blue), Off Tropic (rich green), High Class Affair (creamy nude), Lounge Lover (coral), and Shades On (creamy mid purple).
I’ve applied each of the colours to my nails above so you can see how they look. I love the combination of the coral Lounge Lover and purple Shades On next to each other – it reminds me of a very late 80’s/early 90’s sportswear type colour. Imagine these in a shell suit outfit or velour trim hotpants or something. Maybe I’m just having my own little childhood revival moment. These two shades paired together are probably my favourites of the bunch. I’m also partial to a bright orange coral type shade so also loving Sunshine State of Mind – maybe because I’m in the sunshine state as I type this?!
What do you think of these shades? I also have my portrait shot from the essie X Rankin photo shoot to share too! I was going to include in this post but think I’ll do a separate one so keep an eye out for that soon!
