So, the lady behind the brand that can do no wrong has branched out beyond make-up and skincare and has launched a fragrance. And boy has she launched a fragrance. The new Charlotte Tilbury Scent of Dream Eau De Parfum is a HUGE launch for the brand. Not just a play-it-safe scent that will be a crowd pleaser. It’s a fragrance with a massive story, huge amount of planning during the creation process and basically a whole lot of Charlotte’s heart and soul.

But the big question is – as it always is with a fragrance – what does it smell like?
Well, first things first. The fragrance is the first of it’s kind. It is described as a mind-altering floral chypre perfume harmony or ‘fleurotic’ fragrance. Filled with big claims of mind-altering ‘fleurotic frequency™’ that links to love, light, power, positivity and sex to the person wearing it. Fragrance has long has associations with psychology and attraction and in many ways this new Charlotte Tilbury offering really brings it back to that and at a really base level – the idea of scent being so key in attraction.
The fragrance was created by Charlotte along with top perfumer Francois Robert who worked with Chanel on their fragrances for 30 years. With the key notes breaking down into:
Top notes – ignite positivity: Lemon, Peach, Black Pepper, Saffron, Mandarin, Bergamot.
Heart notes – ignites love and light: Tuberose, Jasmine, Frankincense, Violet, Patchouli, Orange Flower, Rose Oil, Tea Rose, Green Ivy, Magnolia.
Base notes – ignites sex and power: Hedione, Precious Woos, Citrus, Amber and Ambroxan.
One of the things that’s special about this fragrance is how it settles on each person in a totally unique way. Plus it really does last. Which frankly, can be a rarity in fragrances nowadays. There are a LOT of notes and fragrances combined in this and it isn’t one for the initially faint of heart. With an initial hit that is heady and powerful, it’s easy to go on your gut and decide it’s not for you because it may be more intense or stronger than you’re used to. But trust me when I say stick with it and see how it settles. That’s where I think it gets really special. It dries down to a softer, sexy and almost powdery scent on me and whilst I wasn’t hooked on the first spray, as it settled and I could pick up the notes like Tuberose, Jasmine and Orange Flower – that’s when I really started to ‘get’ it. It really does capture a sort of ‘boudoir’ feel – much like the style of the downstairs area of the Covent Garden Boutique – from the potion-like bottle to the scent itself.
The other big news is the amazing ad campaign to go with the launch. Featuring Charlotte’s long time friend and collaborator Kate Moss. I first saw the ad back a month or so ago at the fragrance launch and it was really mesmerising. The magic of the campaign is just a smidge of the fragrance itself and it really is quote mesmerising. Kate has been a media figure for so long, but still manages to be quite an enigma. There’s a feeling with the ad that you get to see a glimpse of the real Kate, that she’s just letting lose and enjoying herself in an environment she’s totally comfortable. I’m a sucker for a fragrance ad and this is one of the best I’ve seen.
Of course, Charlotte being Charlotte didn’t just stop at one of the most famous women in the world fronting the campaign. Oh no. She’s taken it to a whole new level by giving the ad a Virtual Reality spin. I tried it out yesterday and it’s so incredible. It’s in Selfridges and the Covent Garden Boutique now, so I won’t spoil the whole thing for you but it’s like going to a secret party with Kate, Charlotte and all their beautiful friends.

This is definitely a scent I recommend you try in person as it’s unlike anything I’ve ever smelt before. It’s one that I’d really love to know what others think when they give it a go as it’s so unique and fragrance is such a subjective thing it will be really interesting to hear what others have to say about it. If you’re in London then make sure you take a moment to stop by and experience the Virtual Reality too. I’ve never tried VR before so it’s pretty cool that my first time was to virtually party with Kate Moss.
