Essie Rio Collection & 1000th Shade

This is a bit of a double whammy of an essie post – combining a look at the essie Rio Collection, plus a focus on the 1000th essie shade. It seems like a good time to blog them since all eyes are on Rio right now. The 1000th shade is part of the overall Rio collection but stands out as it’s own as it is officially the 100th shade created by the brand. No mean feat and I do wonder if there’s anyone out there who owns EVERY essie shade that has ever been launched?! If this is you please let me know as would LOVE to see each and every shade ever launched in 1981. But right now it’s 2016 and we’re taking a look at the essie Rio Collection & 1000th shade.Essie Rio Collection

So there are six main shades in the collection, plus the stand-out 1000th shade. From left to right above we have:

Sunday Funday– creamy coral

Jazzy Jubilant – multi-glitter

Aruba Blue – Deep shimmering blue

Pure Pearlfection – Fine white/pearl shimmer

Naughty Nautical – Greeny turquoise with silvery shimmer

Bahama Mama – Deep reddy/burgundy shade

Then (below) is the 1000th shade ‘Aim To Misbehave’.

Essie 1000th Shade

Eagle-eyed essie fans will likely spot that the six shades are not brand new ones. They’re said to be inspired by the bold colours of the Rio Carnival and brought together as some of the boldest essie shades out there. Shades like Nicely Nautical from 2013 summer collection or shades like Bahama Mama that was launched back in 2007 as part of collection with Atlantis resorts – but is now in the permanent line.

Now, you know me and you know I love an essie collection, but I can’t help but feel it’s a tad cheeky of essie to launch a Rio collection where the link is a little bit weak to say the least. There’s no link with shades or names as they’re all an edited collection of ones from other launches. Don’t get me wrong, they’re lovely shades but they don’t really jump out as a cohesive collection or with anything really ‘Rio’ about them.

Then of course there is the new one that is the 1000th shade. I guess when you look at it with the 1000th shade as the focus, it makes sense to pull a mix of others  because then it’s much easier to say THIS is THE 1000th shade – where if six new shades were all being made it would be harder to know exactly which one counted as the official 1000th shade of the bunch. If that makes sense?!

Well, the 1000th shade is a show stopper. It’s a bold yellow metallic/sort of gold-y sort of colour called ‘Aim to misbehave’. Quality wise it’s a good-un, one coat and it was bold enough that you could get away with it for sure. Two is better of course (two shown above). The only thing that doesn’t have me going full RAVE over this shade is just that it’s not my sort of colour. I love yellow, but it just doesn’t suit me or my skintone. But I’m sure it would look stunning on someone with more of a tan or a darker skintone than me. For me, it just makes my hands look really pinky. BUT this is definitely one that I can see the Rio/Brazil collection in there.

My top picks of the collection? Well, Bahama Mama is a classic and I am always swayed towards blue nail shades so has to be Aruba Blue!

The essie Rio collection * and 1000th shade * are available now (1000th shade is limited edition, so not around forever)

Ooh I love the look of the 1000th shade, might have to get it! It’s kind of a shame that they didn’t create anything brand new for the Rio collection apart from that, but they’re still great colours – I have Bahama Mama and love it, perfect summer colour 🙂
