Holiday make up bag edit

Very much not my normal day to day life, but I’m just back from an amazing week in Grenada in the Caribbean. Not to go all fancy-jet-set blogger on you AT ALL. Because I promise this is NOT the norm, but I did take the chance to pull a bit of an edited make-up bag together. I’m very much in a ‘less is more’ beauty mode at the moment. I’m more interested in finding that selection of 5-10 products that are fail-safe than the new and exciting bits. Keeping it simple is the order of the day so here’s the stripped back edit of what featured in my holiday make up bag edit.

Holiday make up bag essentials

A few things that vary from my every day make-up choices and make these bits ‘holiday’ rather than every day (though some cross over of course) – waterproof mascara, easy to apply products (i.e. I don’t need to pack a million brushes and tools), lightweight and hydrating to counter the dehydrating effects of too much rum the sun & sea.

In an effort to keep things as simple as possible I edited my selection of holiday make up (and one fragrance) down to just 10 products:

So why this edit of products – why did they each make the cut?

The L’Oreal mascara is one I picked up when I was last in the US because I realise I hadn’t packed a waterproof mascara. It’s good, but not amazing. I love the lash effect, but not totally convinced it’s all that waterproof…which is sort of an essential for a waterproof mascara. Wouldn’t purchase again but it made the cut because I bought it and wanted to use it more than a handful of times before I moved on! I also brought the Charlotte Tilbury black kohl – simply to quickly & easily give a make-up look a bit more of a nighttime look. I need to pick one up in brown though as think it looks that bit softer for Summer nights.

The Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Glow palette was an easy choice to take with me – sadly not looking as pretty as in these photos anymore – but it’s been perfect for a week away (and beyond, of course) because the mix of shades just work perfectly for a bronze glow look. It’s a relatively small palette so perfect for travelling with. Whilst each shade is outlined for which part of the beauty routine it’s a match for you can easily pick and mix – want to give the highlighter a go as shadow? Go for it you beauty rebel you. I won’t tell anyone. My favourites in the palette so far are the face glow powder (4) and the cheek colour (5) as they’re both just so darn glowy.

For the skin, I tend to just wear suncream in the day – I used my favourite Ultrasun Tan Accelerator SPF 30 and the Honey Tinted Ultrasun face SPF 50 too for this trip. Then if I want a bit of coverage I used the IT Cosmetics CC Cream. There’s been a lot of buzz about this one and plan to do a dedicated post (with before and after shots) to show why I think it’s ace. But for now I’ll just say it’s great if you want coverage that also looks and feels light. Bonus being it’s also SPF 50. I use the light at the moment which I think is a good colour match, but suspect in winter I’d actually be the lighter shade (Fair).

Along with the IT Cosmetics CC Cream I also brought my favourite light and bright concealer – the Burberry Cashmere Concealer – this is my second of these and I love it just as much as when I first tried it. It’s great if you want to avoid any heavy concealer that emphasises lines around the eyes. I find this works well to just lightly brighten without creating that ‘halo’ under eye glow look.

For lips I went for two simple balm based products – my lips get really dry after flights and sun. So balm products help look after them. One Lanolips in strawberry for every day and then the Dior Lip Glow for a natural flush of colour. For brows my go to has been the Eylure Fleur De Force double ended brow tamer – quick and easy which is perfect whilst my brows are a tad out of shape at the moment! I also threw in one of the double ended Bobbi Brown long wear shadow crayons as an alternative bit of eye colour to the palette. All in similar tones, but I like having a cream alternative as sometimes you just want to smudge something on and go!

Plus of course the gorgeous Bronze Goddess by Estee Lauder – yes folks, it’s that time of year again! Can’t beat it for a Summer scent! I have a full post on the 2017 Bronze Goddess collection in the works so I’ll hold fire on more detail for now!

Let me know what your must have products for a Summer holiday make up bag are?

How glowy and shimmery is the palette?

The highlight has a gorgeous glow – definitely glow, not shimmer! Then the eyeshadows are similar. The palest shade has a very strong glow, so I tend to go light on that or just use as highlight as all over is a tad intense. The bronzer & cheek shades are less shimmery though.
