One of the best sides of being a beauty blogger for me is getting to take a peek at all the new launches that come out, in all honesty – it can also be one of the slightly ‘overwhelming’ sides to blogging. Especially in September when it seems to be the time of ALL THE NEW THINGS. Which of course is exciting, but also a time when it takes a little bit of narrowing down to really focus on what are the most exciting of the season or else I’ll basically drown under an avalanche of new lipsticks and skincare. No joke, there’s actually a significant risk that this might happen to me one day. So if you don’t hear from me for a few days…send a search party please.
Bit in the interest of being all ‘edited’ and minimal – I thought I’d round up five of the new season launches I’m excited about with a little about why. Of course a few of these I will be doing more detailed posts on soon but as a little ‘heads up’ to a few I’m excited about and why.
Clinique Even Better Glow Foundation
Ok, so I have this on my face now and I can’t wait to tell you more about it. But this new foundation from Clinique is offering pretty much everything I like in a base – a glowy finish but not too much shine. A natural look, but with buildable coverage if you need it. Plus it’s packed with good-for-skin benefits with the whole idea being that you ‘glow with it on, and glow with it off’. So of course you look lovely with the foundation, but the skin loving perks mean that over time your skin gets better too. One of the main benefits being that it contains salicylic acid to help top level cell turn over. I’m always curious about any new foundation launch with the whole ‘is this the one that will make my skin look like those girls on instagram?’ thing (obviously not as it’s not face tune…) but if I can get as close to that as possible whilst still having actual skin… I’ll be a happy bunny. It’s on my face as I type so interested to see how it lasts the day so wait and see the full review coming soon.
Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick
I adore Bourjois as a highstreet brand and their lipsticks are some of the best in the affordable market for sure (it’s a tough call between them and Rimmel as to which do the best lippies in my opinion) but they have a new range out called Rouge Velvet and I’m excited for this launch for a couple of reasons. This is an extension of the Rouge Velvet range that came out a couple of years ago I think. This is a matte lipstick that offers staying power (apparently up to 24 hours…) BUT the best bit being that it’s also packed with lots of moisturising ingredients. So whilst it’s a matte finish, it promises to be comfortable and not leave you feeling like you have had every drop of moisture sucked from your lips. Matte finish, moisture and comfort all in one – yep, this is why I’m excited for this one. The shade shown here is 02 Flaming’rose – this was the shade that immediately jumped out at me a a potential ‘perfect nude’. I’m plotting a little series of ‘lipstick week’ posts as there are just SO MANY lip launches this season so keep an eye out for a look at all 12 shades on the blog soon.
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips
On the whole ‘there are a tonne of new lipstick launches’ topic, another lip offering in the mix I’m excited about is the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips launch. The first liquid lipstick from the Tilbs and it’s pretty exciting. As always, the packaging is flawless and glam and offers a soft but pigmented alternative to the matte liquid lip. My eternal hunt for the perfect matte lip that doesn’t leave my lips looking like dried prunes continue and I have my hopes set high for the Hollywood Lips option. There’s a range of ten shades with a lot of nude options going all the way up to a bold red (shown here) called ‘Screen Siren’ and it’s one of those shades that you know would make even the most tired feeling face look immediately glam and ‘done’. The texture is a bit like a mousse, which might take a bit of getting used to but I cant wait to give them a whirl and see which shades work best for me.
Jo Malone English Oak Collection
There are two fragrances in this collection and I will be doing a dedicated post on them but I wanted to give them a little shout out as they’re just the perfect new Autumn fragrance. Now, it will take A LOT to find a fragrance to replace Blackberry & Bay as my favourite Autumn/all time/Jo Malone fragrance but this could be a contender. It just captures something so very English country side in Autumn. I’ll hold on my descriptions until the full post but lets just say it’s fragrances like this that make me love this time of year (well, the ‘ideal’ version of this time of year… not the grey/drizzle version)
The BrowGal by Tonya Crooks
I know that brows are very much a big deal for a lot of people and I’m sure they’re a HUGE deal for Tonya Crooks (the MUA & artists behind the new range) but for me, I want my brows to be as easy and quick as possible. I’m never going to be someone who spends 20 minutes perfecting them. So why am I including an entire range (and counter in Selfridges FYI) that’s dedicated to brows in the launches I’m excited about? Well, it’s the products themselves. There’s a range of powders, pencils, tools and beyond that are all designed to work together or individually to shape and perfect brows. Taking an alternative approach on counter with filling happening before any shaping/tweezing. With the idea being that when your brows are filled and shaped as you want them, you’re less likely to remove the ‘wrong’ hairs and leave gaps. My top picks of the products? The eyebrow pencil is Taupe – a pretty universal shade (there are a range of other shades of course but a lot of people find this works), that is pressure sensitive if you want something darker or lighter. The highlight pencil in 01 (palest) is also a gem, with a matte and a shimmer shade to highlight that all important brow bone. It’s well worth popping by the Selfridges counter if you’re in the area for a slight twist on the usual approach to brow shaping and styling.
That’s it for the five key launches I’m really excited about – I would LOVE to know if any of these tickle your pickle…! Or are there other launches you can’t wait to get your hands on? Of course the two BIG ones missing from this are the UK launch of Glossier and the Fenty Beauty launch – I have posts in the works on BOTH of these so no fear, I’ve not just decided to gloss over them. In face I have a bit of a Fenty Face going on at the moment so will be blogging like a mad woman this week!
