Olay Daily Facials

‘Always take your makeup off before bed’ is actually one of the skincare routines I’m pretty good at sticking to. In fact, sometimes I enjoy taking my makeup off more than I do putting it on. That feeling of cleansing your skin and removing makeup at the end of the day is up there with clean sheets and that first bite of slice of cake as pleasure factors for me. Over the past few years I’ve gotten into a good double cleanse routine at night – one to take off makeup and the next to properly clean skin and of course I want to keep up good skincare habits but throwing a baby into the mix of life has meant I’m a tad more time-poor than I was before and the realities of the bedtime routine mean I need my skincare to be quick and efficient. It would be all too easy to let myself slip into lazy habits so finding things that manage to either multi-task or do a good job, quickly are a winner for me.

Latest addition to my quick and easy (but still good) skincare routine are the Olay Daily Facials. Billed as a ‘facial in a cloth’ they promise to offer five benefits of removing makeup, cleansing, toning, exfoliating and leaving skin moisturised in one. They’re a hefty upgrade on the humble face wipe as they’re actually dry cloths that are activated with water, which makes them perfect for on the go or travel. Or just me trying to get into bed as quickly as possible without skipping my skincare in the process…

I would almost think of these as a lightweight, portable (and pre-prepared with a hydrating cleanser) dry flannel. Which is perfect for when you’re in a hurry. As it really feels like you’re giving skin a thorough cleanse but quickly and easily. Skin feels clean and fresh and not remotely stripped of moisture – I have dry skin so wouldn’t totally skip the moisturiser step afterwards but skin definitely doesn’t feel at all stripped or tight after using.

There are two type of the Olay Daily Facials formulated to suit different skin-types. The Normal Skin Micellar version with grape-seed extract works to effectively cleanse whilst balancing the moisture in the skin. Plus there’s the Sensitive Skin version which is fragrance free and contains aloe leaf extract to calm and soothe skin.

Both formulas work in the same sort of way. Once you wet the cloth you can lather it to ‘activate’ the cleansing. Then you use just like a flannel really and use gentle circular motions on the face to cleanse and remove any makeup or dirt. Then rinse the cloth and remove the lather from skin. Pat dry and follow with your next steps of your routine, whatever they may be. For me it’s eye cream, serum and moisturiser as essentials. With an SPF of course for daytime.

It’s amazing how having a baby can shake up so many areas of life but I don’t want that to show in my skin so adapting my routine a touch to work with the time I have is important to me. I want to look like someone who has good skin – not someone who has good skin ‘for someone with a baby’ or ‘for someone in her 30’s’ or whatever other ‘measure’ someone wants to put on it. I just want my skin to look the best it can without a routine that requires a babysitter to allow me to get it done….

Used to use these regularly until found how bad for the environment they are cos are not biodegradable at all. And if put down a toilet just clog up your cistern etc. I love beauty shortcuts but try and think of the damage we are doing to our environment as well.

Hi Liz, Absolutely – would never put them down the toilet and know this isn’t advised (need to double check but think this is specifically on the packaging). For lightweight holiday packing they’re really handy to have, but always worth being aware of the wider impact of any product on the environment so thank you for sharing your comment.

Ooh these are such a great idea! Might have to look more into this before my next trip – would be such a great idea for weekends away to avoid having to take a whole cleanser with you! Fab post!
