Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet

I love a bright lip. Absolutely love it. If it wasn’t for the constant face-mashing of baby hands at the moment I’d wear a bright lip every day. There’s nothing that seems to perk up my face in quite the same way as a bright pink or bold red lip. It’s the ultimate ‘look I have my life together’ instant fix. So when Clarins announced some new additions to the Joli Rouge range I was pretty excited. I love Clarins lipstick, they always get the formula just right. My favourite thing being that the Joli Rouge range has twenty shades, and each one is available in three finishes. So there’s the newest Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet, Joli Rouge and Joli Rouge Brilliant. Matte, Satin or Shine. So no more of the ‘oh I love that shade but wish it wasn’t matte’ type thing.

Honestly, my favourite texture is probably the Jolie Rouge satin finish, or Brilliant. I love the look of a matte lip, but do find it harder to wear than other finishes as my lips are always a bit dry. But as far as a matte goes, this one is very comfortable and easy to wear. It feels creamy but no shine. With bold pigment – as you will see below. I especially love a matte finish in a bold shade, so when I was asked to pick my favourites, these four are the ones I chose:

If I’m ever asked to pick my favourite shade of lipstick, I will almost always go for the brightest pink in the selection. Seconded only by a bright orange-red (a shade I think suits pretty much everyone). So from the four below I have: Hot Pink (713V), Red Orange (741V), Pink Cranberry (760V) and Spicy Chili (761V). So a hot magenta, an orange red, a red-pink and a slightly more orange-red. Yes, I can be predictable. I did think about choosing one of their nudes, but rationed that I have endless nude shades I don’t already wear so opted for something  a bit brighter and in your face.

Of the four I chose, I honestly can’t choose a favourite. Just look how bold they are on one single swipe?! The ultimate bold lip needs to be strong in my opinion, doesn’t work as well if you have to build up the colour. So if you’re looking for a bright lip option these are just ace. In fact, I’m off out for dinner tonight with some of my favourite girls for a much needed catch up and might just have to wear one… but which one?! I’m thinking either Hot Pink or Spicy Chili… it’s a tough call!

I feel like I can’t pull of a bold lip, but these colours are gorgeous! They look so perfect for Summer and I like the sound of the formula xx

I’ll bet you can! I think everyone can, just depends on finding the shade and ‘getting used’ to seeing yourself like that. I always say try sheer versions of bold colours to ease yourself into it and gradually build up to a full on bold shade!
