A bit late in the day now we’re pretty heavily into January 2019 now, but I wanted to take a moment to give a little nod to my MVP (most valued products) of 2018 before I get into all the trying and testing of the year ahead. This year includes a selection of products that were new launches of the year but also some older products that were just new-to-me discoveries that I’m excited to have added into my beauty repertoire.
My absolute favourite everyday perfume. Ticks the box of that ‘clean fresh’ feeling fragrance that’s the ‘you but better’ perfume family. Plus just a smidge of musk type of notes so it doesn’t smell like you’re wearing nothing at all. Love it and the fact I’m nearly finished with a bottle says a lot. As much as I love perfume, there’s probably only about four that I’ve totally finished and replaced in my life… so top marks for Glossier on this one.

As recommended by my hairdresser at Hob Salons. I’ve loved using this. The foam texture is a softer alternative to a mousse but delivers a bit more ‘oomph’ to my hair so it’s not as flat as it is naturally but without any crispiness or solid hold. Perfect if you have long fine hair.
Bloody love this stuff. A thick gel that melts into skin and just leaves my skin happy and clean of all makeup. Can apparently be left on a little longer for a mask like treatment but I just love as my day to day cleanser. I know others have raved about for years, so all I can say is sorry I’m late to the party.
Kiko Pearly Eye Base Primer
Love an affordable gem. This quickly became my easy everyday alternative to eyeshadow. A slightly pearly finish that stays in place really well meant it was quick and easy, combined with a bit of concealer, mascara and a bit of a brow tame and that’s my everyday mum-day makeup done.
Back in the first quarter of 2018 I was pregnant (feels like a lifetime ago). This stuff was my go-to. Pregnancy friendly, super hydrating but still felt light. I loved the Pai stretch mark duo too so probably should have included that here. The Pai Rosehip Oil is still a reliable skincare staple now that I am no longer lugging a bump around with me!
I wrote about this in a post (you can read all about the Sanctuary Spa Rose Gold collection) and I was BLOWN AWAY by the glow it gives skin. I’m not currently in the fake-tan bubble, so this is a great product to have at hand if I want to show some skin that’s maybe feeling a bit pasty pale… I haven’t had a huge amount of opportunity to use this yet but keeping in my stash for when those moments pop up!
I love IT Cosmetics and I was VERY close to adding the CC Cream range in here too (especially oil free). However, I decided to go a bit left field and include this pressed powder because it’s one of my daily products now. Used with a fat brush rather than the flat puff thing included. A dusting keeps shine at bay, without making me look flat and too matte. Perfect balance of taking shine away but keeping it looking natural.
The famous NARS Orgasm family grew in 2018 and I picked up a couple of products from the range. I love the loose powder on cheekbones and eyes but the balm is just such an easy wear, I love it. Adds just enough colour without feeling or looking heavy. Side note: I’ll never forget meeting Mr NARS himself a couple of years ago. What an honour.
Actually feel like I need to give a ‘best of 2018’ award to ALL Clinique mascara. As apart from a brief stint with Lancome BIG Waterproof it’s been ALL about Clinique mascara last year. This one being the go-to for the latter part of the year and for the first part being the Clinique Fit Mascara, which I LOVE. Not sure I’ve used enough capitals for emphasis there. But yes, both amazing mascaras that deliver long but not clumpy lashes. Just the right amount of drama without going falsies level.
SkinSense Anti-Ageing Eye Cream
I’ve completely lost count of how many eye products I’ve tried over the year. But this one is amazing as a simply great product. No extreme promises. It just delivers hydration and softer skin. What more do you want? Feels refreshing but effective at the same time. I find some eye products that ‘refresh’ tend to feel too light but this does both hydrate but feel great at the same time.
Almost every brand I love that’s in the US is making it’s way over here now… and I’d love it if Verb was next on the list. This Ghost Oil is one I acquired on recommendation from Zoe and I love it. Smooths without weight. One 60ml bottle is still about 2/3 full and I use it almost every hair wash. And I wash my hair every other day (or every two days at very least)…
New to me in 2018 is my current favourite foundation. Gives me perfected skin that’s still natural. Blends like a dream, keeps it hydrated and doesn’t highlight every fine line as others can. Brilliant stuff.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
As someone who’s lips are usually a bit puckered and dry this is a game changer. A thick creamy balm that sits on lips and works just as it says – as an overnight mask. Ideal if you maybe don’t remember to apply balm in the day. I sent husband to pick this up when he went to Boston to run the marathon. A fair price to pay, a Sephora list when you’re leaving wife home with month old baby…
Last but by no means least. This one has to get the award for the ultimate best of 2018 as far as I’m concerned. This stuff can work miracles. Funnily enough I didn’t ‘get’ it on first use. I applied and just thought I was meant to look like a supermodel but nothing magical happened. But when I combined as a base it works wonders. Radiant, glowing and perfected skin. I am hooked on this stuff now and wear it daily. Even without a base, I now get how to use it and get the most out of it. I was also going to include the airbrush away concealer but felt I might be going a bit too heavy on the Tilbury Fan Girl (which is fair to be honest).
