The YSL Facebook Palette

I’m a bit of a social media geek…so this collaboration really excites me on a number of levels – firstly, it’s YSL – a brand I adore. Secondly – it’s a first for a collaboration between a cosmetics brand and facebook and thirdly – the whole social-media, rewarding fans element is something that I love.

But putting all that aside, lets look at the palette…


The palette contains four shades, a black which has a hint of a green shade to it, a purple/taupe shade with some shimmer, a white which has a pink toned shimmer and a blue (can’t team up with facebook and not have blue?!) which also has some shimmer to it.

The unique thing about the YSL Pur Chromatics palettes is that the shadows can all be used wet or dry, to create different effects and the difference is really quite extreme – I’ve swatched each shade both wet and dry below so you can compare. The shadows really are a lot more pigmented when used wet.

I do think the combination of colours is quote unusual – the white/taupe-purple/black shades all work well but I can’t help but feel the blue is a little random. Saying that, at the launch event the make-up artist had created a gorgeous smokey eye look using all three and it looked amazing – you could see the different shades and each would pick up the light differently to create a really multi-dimensional effect.

Overall, I LOVE this as a use of social media to create something unique as a reward for social media fans – as YSL describe it themselves ‘a vibrant declaration of love for their fans’ – what’s interesting is that this is number 1…so could be the first of a series of facebook linked releases. I’d love to see them create a palette based on requests/votes from the online community – now that would be an amazing reward.

There are only 1,650 of these palettes available and they are on sale now to facebook fans who will receive a number of exclusive benefits in return for owning one of these.

    This is definitely something I haven’t seen before! I wonder if they’ll do more collaborations with other social networking sites or other media. YSL meets Blogspot anyone? 😀 x

    I ordered one too but haven’t received it yet. Gotta be honest, I’m shocked that the shadows aren’t very pigmented. I get that you can use them wet… but that’s a pain.
