YSL Babydoll Mascara

I feel like it’s been eons since I did a mascara review! That’s not to say I have fallen out of love with mascara by any means, but I don’t like being wasteful with lovely products – so I’ve been sticking to ones I love and using them up properly rather than opening new ones for the sake of trying and then letting them go to waste.

But it was time for a change as my previous shade was on it’s last legs so it was perfect timing to discover the new mascara that’s coming to counters this Spring – YSL Babydoll. If the name doesn’t have you hooked, then you’re a stronger beauty lover than I am!

YSL Babydoll Mascara press launch, with Lloyd Chambers make-up artist

The mascara is the hero product in a collection – more on that closer to the launch! But I was lucky enough to witness Lloyd Simmons – creative director for YSL beauty create the Babydoll look on a model at the event. The look is very cute/dramatic – think a modern twist on the classic Twiggy! I then had a chance to have my own version of the Babydoll look – which you can see above – with the plum liner applied with a dramatic flick and the AMAZING YSL Glossy Stain. I am so in love with this colour it’s ridiculous. What I love about the look is that you can dial it up or down to meet your taste – want the liner but skip the bright lips? Or want the lips and a touch of liner, but more subtle…the world is your oyster!

The mascara is a small-ish brush, with some short and some slightly longer bristles to make sure every lash is grabbed and coated. You can really feel this slight clinging as you apply – but in a gentle way, not tugging. You can just feel like it’s not just ‘wiping’ over lashes, but covering them. If that makes sense!?

As you can see from the packaging shots, the one I’m wearing in the before/after shots is called ‘Audacious Blue’ – it’s not really that audacious, as it’s quite subtle. But I like the overall effect, pretty much like black but with that certain something that’s a little more interesting and flattering on blue eyes.

So that’s my little view on the new lash offering from YSL – what do you think??

YSL Babydoll mascara is on counters 22nd May. More on the rest of the collection nearer the date!
