Holiday Beauty Essentials

When it comes to the beach or holidays in general I am pretty much a total fail of a beauty blogger – I am much happier to go totally make-up free and keep things as simple as possible. Fifty five step cleansing routines followed by twelve different masks for each area of my face… no thanks (yes, I do exaggerate, but you get my point). For me, holiday means taking everything as easy as possible and the whole beauty routine is pared down to a minimum. A few products that I’m loving for the easy holiday routine are…

Face Wipes:  No, as much as I wish I could pare things back this much I don’t quite go as far as using face wipes instead of a cleanser (Bioderma or an oil cleanser are just as easy but more thorough) but I do always have face wipes to hand on holiday for a couple of reasons. Firstly for a general freshen up and secondly to wipe hands clean of any suncream. After a bit of an incident where I managed to get suncream in my eye on one holiday and proceeded the spend the rest of the day as a cyclops only able to see out of one eye has made me paranoid. So now I always carry wipes, currently these from Johnsons Face Care*.

Multi-tasking products: This Kiko ‘Glow Touch’ lip and cheek balm* is a beauty. Easy to use to add a flush of colour to lips and or cheeks and the ideal pink with just enough of a coral hint to keep it really fresh and summery. This is in my work handbag now too so not just a beach essential! Oh, and I spied in Westfield at the weekend that it was on special offer – looks like it in on the website too, only £2.90 (50% off).

The make-up basics: I keep it really simple for holiday, an SPF-laden base, a waterproof mascara and a bronzey highlighter to add a glow and can double up as eyeshadow if I feel like making more effort. Current items of choice for this – all Clinique! Love the City Block Sheer* – as the name suggests it’s a sheer tinted base that offers SPF 25 protection, plus it feels really comfortable to wear. Clinique High Impact Waterproof Mascara* is one of the best I’ve found – it actually is waterproof, which says a lot about the others…! Then for cheeks I’ve been loving this pretty cheek bronzer/highlighter shade* – brown and shimmery enough to add a sun kissed glow but still keep things on the natural side.

Other bits: Along with a mini bioderma or cleansing oil I also always take eye make-up remover, it’s needed if you’re using waterproof otherwise the product it just layered on and on until your lashes are like fat tarantulas legs stuck together. Not a good look. A mini is always handy – even if you buy a bigger bottle and just decant into a smaller container for travel. This is the Laura Mercier Oil Free Eye Make-Up Remover* (Available from Urban Retreat Beautique) and it works a treat.

Bumble and Bumble Surf Travel Set* – I blogged about how much I’m loving the Bumble and Bumble Surf range so this surf set is ideal. Mini sized and the easiest way to achieve beachy/California girl hair.

Finally, another essential to refresh and cool off (also amazing for the current unusual heat wave in London) is Sol De Janeiro Posto Cool Coconut Water Cooling and Hydrating Mist* (available at Quite a mouthful and from a brand I hadn’t heard of before, but this stuff is fantastic. It does as it says ont he bottle – cools, hydrates and refreshes. And coconut water – ideal for that holiday feeling (even if you are just on a sweaty Central Line train).

I always find minimal make up posts really interesting to read; I love seeing how different bloggers pick out their favorite holiday essentials.

I just don’t bother with wearing make up if I know I’m going to be anywhere near a beach / swimming pool

I have been trying to get my hands on the little mini B&B surf set but haven’t been able to get it anywhere! I love the surf spray but have yet to try the shampoo and conditioner! The coconut cooling mist sounds amazing too, great post 🙂

Planning to take waterproof mascara for my holiday but find it such a pain to carry a separate eye make-up remover. I should find the strength to give up mascara for 2 weeks… :p
