YSL Youth Liberator Foundation: Review

YSL has recently launched it’s new Youth Liberator foundation – a foundation that features it’s much-loved Youth Liberator serum to give skin an anti-ageing boost whilst perfecting it and keeping it looking flawless all day long. When I think of anti-ageing foundations, I typically think of quite heavy feeling textures, perhaps with lots of a silicone in them to help cover/fill in fine lines and a quite shiny finish as anti-ageing and hydrating tend to go hand in hand. This is not to say that all anti-ageing foundations are like this, but it is the sort of thing I have come to expect. This foundation is none of those things – it’s pretty special. Even if you’re not at the anti-ageing skincare age yet then this is a lovely all-round foundation.

Firstly the most superficial comment about the foundation  – I love the bottle. It’s sleek and has something a little bit ‘magic potion’ about it. It looks stylish and expensive – plus the pump is really nice and neat and dispenses just enough product.

One small pump of this is enough to cover the whole face, on a bad skin day I might use a pump and a bit – but one is usually plenty.  It applies really smoothly and easily, and doesn’t need tons of blending to make it look smooth. It’s a medium coverage, but feels really light on the skin – exactly the combination I want! I like foundations to ‘do something’ (ie cover up flaws) but feel and look like I’m not really wearing anything.

The thing I like best about this foundation though is the finish – it’s the perfect velvet matte. So it leaves skin without shine but with a healthy glow. So not chalky matte in any way, just nicely perfected and natural looking. I do tend to dab a touch of finishing powder over the t-zone just to help it stay in place all day long on my combination skin. But the finish of this really is rather lovely.

In terms of skincare benefits, I can’t really comment as haven’t used it for long enough but what I can say is that this one keeps my cheeks and eye area looking and feeling more hydrated for longer than most foundations. Another reason for me to love it!

The shade I am wearing here is BR20.
