YSL has got to be the brand that embodies glamour – with it’s glossy gold packaging that’s both flashy and expensive looking it just screams Christmas party to me. I recently popped along to a YSL counter to check out some of their new launches (they have some seriously amazing glosses coming in 2014…even if you don’t like gloss, you will like these) and wanted to show the look created by the lovely Fred Letailleur, YSL Make-up Artist for Northern Europe.
And yes, that is a colour palette you spy there….
The look was all about using the infamous Touche Eclat to quickly and easily refresh the complexion. Using a splodge (technical term) on the back of his hand Fred used a foundation brush to apply on the key areas of undereyes/tops of cheeks, the mid brow/lower forehead and the temples. To create natural looking brightness – considering I went to see him after a full day at work, he did an amazing job of making me look significantly less tired than I looked (and felt when I went in).
Then the look was all about the eyes – with the black khol liner creating the main smokey effect, combined with the shadows – gold and deep purple from the palette to add smoke and still flatter to the eyes. Then layers and layers of the wonderful Baby Doll mascara to really dial up the lash drama. On the lips was a touch of one of the new glosses (more on these in early 2014) and the cheeks were a gorgeous pinky, heart design blusher that I’ve been obsessing over ever since – it’s Limited Edition and apparently there’s still some available but I haven’t managed to track it down yet. There’s nothing like the words Limited Edition to turn me into a mad woman on a beauty hunt…
The best thing about this look in my opinion is that it showed me that emphasising my eyes can be really flattering – it always used to be my go-to look with tons of black liner and mascara. But for some reason I decided it didn’t really suit me – but without sounding like some sort of narcissist – I really like this look and it’s made me determined to keep trying a little colour and a lot of liner in future as have been shying away recently in favour of a just lashes type of look. But liner is back and there’s no stopping me with it!
My top tip for the #YSLPartyLook is that four simple products (three if you fancy skipping the shadow) – Touche Eclat, Liner, shadow and Babydoll mascara are the real essentials for taking a look from desk to dancefloor. Just add the touche eclat to give that ‘lit from within’/not shattered look, add the drama with the eye products. Maybe a touch of gloss, or even just balm to keep the eyes the main focus… and you’re good to go! Plus, going eyes instead of lips means no worries about eating/drinking/kissing making it wear off!
YSL is available at John Lewis stores nationwide.
