Formula X For Sephora

Back in Feb when I went to New York I of course paid a visit to the holy grail that is Sephora – now they’re no longer doing the Sephora/OPI colours I used to adore (the mini sets were my weakness) they now have the Formula X for Sephora range and I can safely say that if you can imagine it – this range is likely to have it. They have so many colours/finishes/textures/top coats/finishes that I could have spent a vast chunk of the four days we were in the US for just browsing these. The stands are extensive – with two sides of a single stand being dedicated to the range – and making a choice was tough. But make a choice I did and selected these two shades – a textured ‘confetti’ top coat and a glittery shade with multi-faceted colour.

The Confetti shades (or ‘Xplosives’) were actually my main ‘magpie’ moment – with a gorgeous cobalt blue that I resisted (and now regret not buying) but I went for this shade called ‘Turbulent’ which is a mix of black and turquoise glitter chunks. It was the colour that sold it to me and I love the idea of this over either a white base, or either a dark or a complimentary turquoise shade. I haven’t painted it on my nails yet purely as I wanted to delay the hassle of removing the glitter chunks…but colour wise, I love it. The picture above shows two coats.

Then I went for ‘Heroic’ which is in the ‘Shifters’ nail effects category – which is basically a shimmer base with glitter through it. But the shimmer has a bit of a duo-chrome type of finish and can look like different shades in different lights. This one manages to look aubergine purple in some, bronze in others – and has a fine gold glitter running through it. The Sephora site describes it as lilac and gold metallic, I’d say it’s not really that lilac as it’s a darker shade than that. But either way, it’s a beauty – one that on first look feels quite classic for a bronzey dark nail. But when you look closer is far more unusual than it seems on first impressions.

There were so many colours and just looking at the range online now I’m kicking myself for not picking up more. That cobalt blue Xplosive one will be mine next time I pay Sephora a visit! There really are so many shades and finishes that it’s almost overwhelming!

Available from Sephora $12.50 (which now ships to the UK – although you can’t purchase nail varnish to be delivered to the UK)

I am so sad Sephora won’t post these to the UK. I want to try this range so badly. You bought 2 lovely colours. I do like the topcoat. It would make a pretty accent nail

I love both of these shades. I haven’t tried a Formula X Nail Polish yet, because whenever I go in there, I am never sure which shade to pick. Next time I go into Sephora I am going to make a point to check out the Xplosive shades. Thanks!

I have some of the xplosives as well – my fav is the black/white version. It looks so cute over white nailpolish. 😀 I do not however have that bronzey color and I quite like it!

I have been checking these out on sephora’s website and I must say the selection is amazing. Hows the formula of the polish though? It like china glaze or OPI?

I love the Sephora Formula X range too! Turbulent is such an amazing nail polish, I love all that chunky matte glitter. I used mine with a black base and it was very outer space-like!
