I said in a previous post that I kinda hope that ‘gel’ finish nail polish just becomes the norm – with high gloss finish and long lasting wear as standard. With that in mind – this is a little selection of the new Avon Gel Finish Nail Enamel shades. The colours are all pretty classic from this selection – but I would guess for an Avon audience that makes sense. with a coral red, a nude, a deep burgundy, a shimmering deep purple and a baby pink all in there. This would pretty much make up a capsule ‘essentials’ nail wardrobe (personally, I’d need a blue and a turquoise in there too…but that’s just me!
All of the swatches above show two coats – so you can see the difference in finish between each of the shades. The coral red, burgundy and purple are all great with two coats. The baby pink is the sheerest -but this doesn’t make it bad, just a sheerer colour for a subtle finish. The nude is almost there, but I think a third coat would look good.
Each swatch is shown dry, so you can see how glossy the finish is on these. They’re all pretty glossy, but I would be tempted top pop a little bit of Seche Vite over the top (for the gloss, and also just because it does dry better than any other top coat I’ve tried).
My top pick of the shades is definitely the coral red – love this colour for Summer! The darker shades are also really nice, but not unique. The one I’d skip is the baby pink – purely because baby pink isn’t really my colour.
The shade names are: Coral Red ‘Firecacker’ , Nude ‘Barely There’, Burgundy ‘Wine and Dine Me’ , Shimmering deep purple ‘Perfectly Plum’, baby pink ‘Sheer Love’. Each priced at £3.50 (currently reduced to from £7) is a really reasonable way to get a good quality gel finish.
What do you think about gel finish polishes – more of a fad, or here to stay?
