My lipstick collection is getting pretty serious – it’s at a one-in, one-out stage…but I just have to make room for these three from Clinique as they’re pretty special. These are three of the Clinique Soft Matte Lipstick range – a long lasting lipstick collection that promises a matte look, but without the drying feeling you typically get with a matte colour. My lips always are on the slightly dry side – seemingly no-matter what I do balm/moisture wise so whilst I love the look of matte finish, it doesn’t always work for me. So a lipstick with the promise of soft lips too…I am interested.
The three shades I have here basically sum up what I want from a lipstick – from left to right there’s ‘Beauty’ a rosey shade that whilst it looks quite strong manages to be a ‘my lips but better’ (blogger cliche klaxon) at the same time, a very flattering shade. Then there’s ‘Petal’ a gorgeous bright pink that manages to be bright and colour-pop, but not too in your face so could happily be worn in the day without risk of ‘look at the crazy lady’s lipstick’ stares.
Then there’s the stunning red that is Crimson – I am partial to a red, it just perks a pretty plain outfit up immediately… which I can usually be found wearing (jeans and grey top/striped top uniform anyone?). But as far as pigment and colour go – this shade Crimson is a winner.
As for the wear and soft feeling – as I said, I do have dry lips generally, so I am a bit more of an ‘extreme’ test, as in I’m probably expecting miracles if I’m asking a lipstick to help with the dryness as well as deliver a matte finish on my already dry feeling lips… but it’s actually not bad. I’ve been wearing Petal quite a bit lately and find it does last, is a sort of silky matte finish and whilst it is undeniably more drying than the average creamy lipstick, I have definitely tried ones that leave lips feeling a whole lot more parched after wear than this one.
If you’re going to check them out then keep an eye out for Peony (a bright pink with coral hint to it) and Mandarin (an orange red) …they both look like stunning shades. Also, little bit of an afterthought but worth a mention – love the packaging style of Clinique Lipsticks.
