Current: Every Day Make Up

As much as I’d like to say otherwise, I am very much a creature of habit when it comes make-up. I tend to find a few bits I love and for day to day, stick with them. I’ll often switch one thing or another out at a time as I try new things (e.g. I recently switched from a Topshop Brow Pencil to using the Benefit Gimme Brow). But for now, this is the daily roster of my every day make up.

In all honesty – I don’t wear a full face of slap every day. I tend to go make-up free if I’m home all day – unless I’m trialling things or perhaps practising a make-up look I haven’t tried before (seriously, practice is the way forward…you don’t want to try something new when you’re about to head out the door and it be a big fail and have no time to make yourself look normal again). I should also say that I have intentionally left the products in this shot looking as used as they are – I figure beauty blogging isn’t all about the perfectly new and gorgeous looking things. But it’s about the used and the smudged too – so here are my day to day loves of the moment in all their mucky glory!

Face:

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water * – A first for me, a water as a primer?! Crazy talk. I know – but this is the primer for people who are too lazy for primer. Full review to come but basically a water spray with electrolytes to create a good base for foundation and also doubles up as finishing spray.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation * – I reviewed this lately HERE and it’s love. A current daily fave that’s only switched out with another foundation that I’m not quite ok’d to talk about yet… but more soon!

Bare Minerals Stroke of Light * – This is my go-to for brightening the under-eye area and the inner eye. I occasionally use around the sides of the nose to brighten there too. Love how fluid is it as works for my dry eye area.

Charlotte Tilbury Ecstasy Blusher * – A gorgeous two-shade blush that’s just enough shimmer to add a glow and rosy enough to look flattering on my skin when pale in winter and tanned in Summer. Adore this (as with basically everything Charlotte Tilbury).

No7 Instant Radiance Bronzing Highlighter * – Not an every day use one strictly. But when I want a bit of extra glow then I pop this along my cheek bones. I find because it’s a bronzing one, it’s that touch less ‘glowy’ than a lighter shade of highlighter.

Eyes:

Smashbox Photofinish Lid Primer * – I have oily lids so a primer is essential. This one creates a nice even base that lasts, even if not bothering with shadow – it helps conceal redness and even out the lid. Plus helps shadow stay in place.

Illamasqua Vintage Metalix ‘Courtier’ * – From THIS collection last year, a pale pinky shimmer that I find brightens the eye and adds a touch of shine whilst creating a nice base for a powder (also helps set this and stay in place).  Sometimes I use this alone, or I layer with shadow.

Topshop Orion Eyeshadow Trio * – This was from a limited edition collection a while back so sorry, I know that’s a bit annoying. But having a look on the topshop site they do have a quad that contains some similar shades (here). For this you can pretty much see which I use the most and the least – the pale one is a great day to day shimmer, but I love the silvery taupe shade to add a little extra depth too. If going out, I’ll add some of the purple for evening along the lash line – I find this works well with my darker hair colour.

Benefit Gimme Brow * – The quickest and easiest way to add a little extra oomph to brows and tame them at the same time. Easy peasy. This is the light shade and I love it – if you want natural looking brows then this is the way to go over powder or filling in with pencil.

Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl Liner Barbarella Brown * – Yes, more Charlotte Tilbury loving. This is the dark brown shade and it’s amazing. Silky smooth to apply, lovely to blend but stays put all day long.

No7 Midnight Lash Mascara * – I have been really loving this but a couple of times this week I’ve realised over the day it does start to smudge a little on the upper lids. So that’s a bit of a bummer. But other than that – great mascara. Fluffy brush that means it builds really nicely to a strong but still on natural side effect. The colour is nice and dark and works on top and bottom lashes equally. The packaging also reminds me of my favourite Lancome Mascara – Hypnose Star – so thumbs up for that.

Lips:

For every day I haven’t really been wearing colour – that’s something I only tend to do when out and about. If at home then it’s just a balm for me – currently either Zelens The Balm * (which I’m wearing in the shot) – a milky pale balm that does add a touch of a white-ish sheen to lips but mega hydrating and smells lush or Rodial Glam Balm * – a long term favourite of mine. Adds more gloss than the Zelens but similarly hydrating. Both are sitting on my desk with me as I type right now in their usual spot where I can reach them all the time.

After going through all of those it makes me want to mix it up. Am thinking of digging out some of my favourite eye shadow palettes – maybe even trying a bit of colour…ooo errr… I know. DARING right?!

Lovely blog post… It’s true that most of us are creatures of habit, no matter how much we indulge ourselves in a wide selection of make-up! I always have those ‘go-to’ products that I continue to reach for. But hey, doesn’t everyone?
