I’m trying to break out of a bit of a rut at the moment – and what better way to do this than to look at changing up your beauty look for the new seasons ahead? It’s officially Spring, which means Summer is just around the corner. Which typically means time to pull out the pastels and move into wearing brighter colours. Over the past few weeks I have been inspired to add a little colour to my life through my wardrobe, and now why not extend to my nails?! So I had a look through some of my Spring/Summer loved shades and the newest offerings for this season and pulled together my own little ‘edit’ of 10 Spring Summer nails to try.
Taking it from left to right we have… Model’s Own ‘Turquoise Sea’, Barry M Sunset Polish in ‘I’ve Been Pinkin’, Topshop ‘Mannequin’, Rimmel London Rita Ora Collection ‘Roll In The Grass’, Maybelline Superstay in ‘Orange Punch’, Bourjois La Laque in ‘Vernis Bleu’, Topshop ‘Apathy’, Bourjois La Laque ‘Orange outrant’, Topshop Matte in ‘Reality Bites’ and last but by no means least Models Own ‘ Cocktail Hour’.
Models Own ‘Turquoise Sea’ – A bright turquoise shade from the Models’ Own ‘Polish For Tans’ collection. Bright but this one isn’t maybe as super-bright as the others, so wearable without people feeling inclined to stare…
Barry M Sunset Polish in ‘I’ve Been Pinkin’ – I’m not normally a pink girl but I like this rich raspberry pink. Creamy and bright, a bit of an ‘out of the box’ choice for me. This is from the new Sunset Polish range that I’m seriously impressed by too.
Topshop ‘Mannequin’ – Because even with all the best intentions to add colour, everybody needs a bit of nude in their life (cheeky…). I think this as it’s a proper nude, but not totally unflattering on my pale skintone and doesn’t make my hands look too pink.
Rimmel London Rita Ora Collection ‘Roll In The Grass’ – I love all shades of turquoise and this is one of my favourites as it’s bright and soft at the same time. Not too sugary pastel, but not too bright either. Perfect for both Spring & Summer. Rimmel nail polishes are amazing value too – great quality but really affordable.
Maybelline Superstay in ‘Orange Punch’ – The Maybelline Superstay shades made a splash last year when Uptown Blue was a run away favourite. Same formula, this is a brighter colour for those who love to go bright. A Summer alternative to red maybe?
Bourjois La Laque in ‘Vernis Bleu’ – What’s this I spy? New style packaging from Bourjois La Laque? Well these are rather snazzy new-shaped bottles… sort of curved-edge quarters… Nothing else looks like this out there and it’s always nice to see something different. The bottle is also rather awesome for staying secure in your hand when painting… Colour wise, this is a richer turquoise and for me Spring/Summer wise I still lean towards darker shades from time to time, so it’s nice to have an option that’s still got that bit more colour.
Topshop ‘Apathy’ – When I saw the new season colours from Topshop this one wasn’t exactly the one I leant to first. But it did grab by eye and as much as a creamy bright lime green is about the opposite end of the scale to my usual choices, my eye keeps coming back to it and I actually love this when teamed with grey. So I can keep my outfit neutral but add a pop of colour on the nails… well, I did say I wanted to get out of the rut!
Bourjois La Laque ‘Orange outrant’ – I can’t do Spring/Summer nails without at least a not to coral. This is a creamy bright coral, leaning more orange then pink. But is more pink than the Orange Punch shade from Maybelline.
Topshop Matte in ‘Reality Bites’ – A matte shade, but with a pearl shimmer. I like this sort of matte as it leaves the nails with a sort of satin like finish. Plus, as I always say with matte shades – you can always add a glossy top coat if you want to switch up the finish. I like the matte finish being a bit of a twist on the typical ‘pastel lilac for Spring’ shade…
Models Own ‘ Cocktail Hour’ – If you want bright, then I’ll give you bright… This is the brightest of the bunch and another from the Models Own Polish for Tans range. A brighter than bright orange/coral shade that is a true neon. Bring on the Summer (and an actual tan..) so I can wear this! Holiday toes are just calling for it.
What shades are you loving for Spring Summer Nails? Any here jump out to you – love or hate?!
