The Ordinary is causing quite the stir in the skincare world at the moment. If you haven’t heard, The Ordinary is part of the Deciem brand. Self described as ‘the unusual beauty company’ – and it really is.
The brand are passing up on profit margins and pretty packaging and instead launching products that simply deliver. Not in a ‘value’ brand sort of way though. In a way that harnesses those key buzzword ingredients or results and offers them as bafflingly low prices.
The cynical side of me immediately raised an eyebrow and asked what the catch is. Am I going to grow an extra nose or perhaps have to sell off my first born for research? So far, neither is the case. The main thing is that The Ordinary are just offering good products a lot closer to cost price than we’re used to being sold. That doesn’t mean they’re not making profit of course – Deciem is a business afterall – it’s just taking off a chunk. But in making serious skincare seriously affordable they’re opening up their reach to a huge audience. So pretty sure they know what they’re doing!
I have a handful of products from across the Deciem brand families to keep me busy at the moment but I wanted to give this one its own shout out.
The Ordinary High Spreadability Primer. Sure it sounds a bit like you should be putting it on toast but this really does make for a fab prep for makeup. I’ve taken to using this in two ways. One – on its own with no makeup as it just sort of smooths things out a tad without feeling heavy. The two – if I’m going for a long day dashing around I’ll use it all over as a bass before foundation etc.
It does give that silky smooth feel of a ‘typical’ silincone Primer but without that ‘coating’ feeling that many give. If you want something that smooths and helps create that even finish this is great shout.
With all products in The Ordinary range being under £12 – what’s not to like?!
