Three things that make me happy

three things that make me happy.jpg

1. Work (or life in general…)

Yes, this is a bit of a general one – but I’m actually really happy with life at the moment. I made a big change by leaving my full time job at the start of the year, and so far – so good. I am so grateful for the flexibility this is allowing me. I will never take this for granted, having a full time job and running a blog where you post daily is no mean feat (all the more credit to those who do this and have kids in the mix too – don’t know how you do it!). But basically, I’m less tired, a lot happier and loving every moment.  Fingers crossed (and lots of hard work) it continues.

Then on top of work (more the life in general part) I had a huge clear out at the flat last week so it’s feeling clutter-free – this makes me very happy. Plus the fact I don’t feel the need to shop all the time – I know this is basically a crime to admit as a blogger. But I’ve found that since I’ve been working for myself, but urge for random splurges has lessened. Maybe it’s just part of being a bit happier…(or maybe the loss of the guaranteed payday each month) who knows! But I like that I’m being a bit more sensible with what there is in my bank account.

2. Fresh flowers

It feels like such a blogger cliche to say this, but it really is rather lovely to have a bunch of fresh flowers around the flat. I have a bunch sitting next to me as I type that arrived this week (with the flowers interspersed with Essie Spring collection…best flowers ever?!) and I love that the fill the flat with fragrance. I am trying to have flowers in the flat on a weekly basis, even if just a simple bunch of daffodils – now I’m spending more time here that before, it’s the little things like that that make it even lovelier to be at home. I have also developed a bit of a thing for tulips since I was sent a gorgeous bunch of these from Debenhams Flowers (you can get 15% off if you order today 28/03 with the code MDBLOG15) – they lasted well over a week (with the yellow ones lasting a few days longer than the pink and white). But tulips really do sum up Spring for me. *Psst- don’t forget it’s mother’s day on Sunday…so now would be a good time to order those flowers…

3. Puppies/Dogs

Yes, I am a little obsessed – especially with the sausage dog variety. So much so that I saw one then other day when walking past West Elm on Tottenham Court road – when the owner and dog (wearing a little winter coat) turned into the store I may have actually followed. Yes, I do love to browse West Elm too, but who am I kidding – I just thought the dog was adorable. But in my defence, I’m not a total dog-creep  – there is a strong chance that we will be getting a puppy very soon (sorry mum if you’re reading this – she’s not the biggest fan of dogs, even small ones) so I was actually curious to see what happened when the dog went in the shop. The fact that we could be getting a dog does make me very happy indeed – I’ve loved them for a long time and over the past couple of years even more so – totally get how they are a huge commitment, but have weighed up the benefits and decided that they far outweigh the downsides. I will of course update if the puppy thing happens (there’s probably a strong likelihood that the puppy will have it’s own instagram – yes, that’s how cool I am).

On the lovely suggestion of Mrs D Loves she suggested this becomes a little tag… so here it is! I tag: Mrs D Loves (of course!), Zoe, Lily, Jennie and Katie

      That’s a good idea – maybe I’ll make it one! 🙂

Removing clutter is one of the most satisfying things ever, and there’s just something so sweet about flowers, reminds you of all the beauty in the world.

Lovely inspiring post! Top three things that make our gang happy

1 Journalling – a little way to take stock of those things daily that make us smile

2 Super lovely fragrances – fresh flowers (heavenly!), scented candles, essential oil drenched baths

3 Longer days – Spring with its flashes of colour, warmer days and lighter nights, trees unfurling and the distinctly different smell in the air signalling departure from winter and a journey into spring
