This is the MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection – and before I even get on to talking about the actual products can I just say how awesome is this packaging?! Maybe it’s just me, and I know it’s essentially pretty simple – but I love how it’s a gorgeous metallic turquoise with a wet-look finish. Like it’s just been splashed by someone jumping in a nearby refreshing pool of water or something. Gorgeous. To me, the packaging is a definite stand-out (plus the little ‘wet’ bobble feel nice). But enough about the packaging – more about the shades shown here.
These three shades are a pretty good snapshot/over-view of the collection – one nail, one blush and one lipstick. The nail is called ‘Submerged’ and is a gorgeous teal/purple duo-chrome shimmer type of shade. The blusher is one of the Extra Dimensions Blushers in (according to the label is called Mountain High) but actually pretty sure it’s ‘Seduced at Sea’ and the lipstick is called ‘Enchanted One’.
Let’s start with the nail varnish – this stuff is AMAZING. Not the shade ever so much, as this can be duped pretty easily I reckon (the new Barry M collection has a similar one, as does the Revlon Spiderman Collection) but the quality/staying power is what has blown me away on this. I painted it on Tuesday and no word of a lie it’s still looking about 95% perfect. The picture above (feat shameless bling flash) was taken on Thursday eve and since then it has gone through more puppy playtime, housework, and flat-pack furniture building… and only the thumb on my left hand has the slightest of chips. I’m the most impressed with the staying power for a polish as I have been in ages. Very impressive. I did of course use a base coat (Revlon Quick Dry) and top coat (Seche Vite) but this is my normal routine so nothing out of the ordinary there.
The lipstick is a pretty but safe colour (just how I like it) – very much a natural looking dusky pink that will deliver the blogger cliche of ‘my lips but better’ finish. Again, just how I like it! I actually don’t know what finish (cremeheen/satin etc) this is – not that it totally matters – but some people only like on type of MAC lipstick over the others so wanted to try and find out.
Lastly, there’s the gorgeous Extra Dimension Blusher – in ‘Seduced At Sea’. This is one of those shades that looks like a different colour in evert sort of lighting – in some it looks peachy-pink, others it looks more rosey, others it looks almost terracotta-like. Maybe I just need my eyes testing… on the website it’s described as a midtoned neutral plum. The extra dimension element means that the formula is a cream/powder one – powder do finely milled it almost feels like a cream/liquid/mousse type of texture. It means it delivers shimmer that’s not even close to glitter – just pure sheen. This colour when swatched shows it as most true-to-life – slightly bronzey, but with pink undertones. This will look gorgeous on anyone with a tan in Summer as a highlighter/blusher combo.
My standout from this selection of the MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection – the nail varnish! Has to be based on the staying power alone – has made me want to re-visit the nail range from MAC which has never really been one to totally grab my attention (well, not since the Disney Villains collection!)
Overall – stunning packaging and pretty shades – but if you missed any of the colours then I suspect most are dupe-able! But I for one will definitely be checking out more MAC nail varnish after this one.
