The January Face

I am basically queen of being stuck in a rut. When it comes to make-up and sticking with daily favourites. So as a new thing in 2016 I decided that each month  I’d do a ‘face’ post showing the regular features that are appearing on my face daily that month. Firstly as a way to showcase a few favourites that have been regulars on my face that month and why I’m loving them. Then secondly to try and help me realise a rut when I’m in one and force me to shake things up a bit for the next month.

This month (so far) has all been about a healthy looking base (faking it before I have a healthy looking face for real…), naturally groomed brows, light eyes and lashes. Plus bare lips as have been mostly just wearing lip balm this month so far. For the full product run down…

Base: Becca Backlight Priming Filter * + Max Factor Miracle Match Foundation * (Beige 55) + Maybelline Better Skin Concealer * (Light)

The Becca Backlight Priming Filter is AMAZING. If you love a glowy base but don’t want to overdo it with the shimmer then you need to try this. Honestly can already see it making my annual favourites and we’re not even a fortnight into January. It feels like a fresh, hydrating moisturiser when applied and leaves skin glowing. LOVE. I’ve been using this as primer, followed by the Max Factor Miracle Match Foundation – which you can read more about here as I reviewed it earlier this week. Then to hide any left over dark circles and spots. Then to finish a little dusting of Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish Powder to keep shine under control in the old T-zone.

Eyes: Too Faced Shadow Insurance + Burberry Eye Colour Cream * (Festive Gold) + Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara *

I’ve been going for a simple, light and slightly sparkly look so far in January. I think it’s in an attempt to look nice and wide awake when I may not be quite feeling that way. The Burberry Eye Colour Cream is from the Christmas collection but is definitely one I’m keeping hold of now the tree is away. It’s a Champagne gold creamy powder feeling texture that has a little sparkle but nothing too overwhelming. I’ve then been topping off the eyes with my current favourite mascara – Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill – (that’s on it’s last legs so need to decide which I use next or if I will repurchase – I would 100% repurchase if I didn’t have a few in my ‘to try’ drawer).

Brows: Illamasqua Precision Brow Gel * (Awe) + Benefit Gimme Brow * (Light/Medium)

This has been my go to combination for a while. I use the Illamasqua Precision Brow Gel – applied with my beloved Liz Earle Brow Brush – using the angled end to apply the colour and fill in the gappy bits of my brow, then the brush bit to soften it all and blend the colour through. Then I just top off with a little Benefit Gimme Brow that helps to tint the paler blonde hairs in my brow and just brush and hold them into shape. I do like to keep my brows natural looking rather than overly groomed – that being said, they are in need of a tidy up and tint ASAP!

Cheeks: Tarte Tipsy Blush*

My current ultimate go-to blush every day for MONTHS now. I love the bright/coral pink shade that makes me look a touch more perky without looking like I’ve given myself a little slap in the face to wake up. As much as I love this I am going to try and force myself to try something new out next month as it has been a reoccurring favourite for a LONG time now and I just feel I need to switch things up a little!

Lips: Nothing!

Well, I’ve been wearing lipbalm, mostly the Sisley one that’s amazing. But colour wise, nope – been going true nude lip. I do have quite pale lips so probably would be better reaching for a hint of colour, so that’s on the list for something to add into the mix next month.

So there we have it for the first monthly ‘face’ post. I’m sure some of these products will appear time and time again over the months but hopefully documenting what I’m wearing each month will give me that little nudge to reshuffle things and ‘shop my stash’ a little more frequently. Right, now I’m off to go and raid my blusher drawer… and possibly dig out a liquid liner for next month’s face…
