Testing: First Impressions #3

Another week has whizzed past and it’s time to share a littel ‘First Impressions’ post of some bits I’ve been testing lately. Now, a couple of these are ones I’ve tried in the past but realised I never blogged about so thought it would be worth including. This is basically my ‘weekend away’ first impressions. As they’re all items I took with me for an overnight trip away this weekend – so some of them (Clarins and Aurelia) are travel sized not full sized product. So without further waffle… on to the mini reviews.

Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel * (John Lewis £20.50)

This one is the thing cleanser dreams are made of. I’ve tried this a while ago but as I mentioned above, it wasn’t one I had written about before so wanted to include. You know when you try something and think that it’s so good you’re baffled to why you’re not using it daily already so you almost forget to admit you just tried it!? Well that’s sort of what happened here. That and filming THIS video with Zoe reminded me.

Basically it’s a great cleanser, especially if you like the feeling of an oil cleanser, but not the mess as it has that similar ‘melting’ feeling but without the dripping mess that can come with an oil. A big claim…but this could be my holy grail cleanser… oh yes people. I used the HG term. It’s serious.

The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye & Lip Make Up Remover * (The Body Shop £9)

When my D&G eye make-up remover ran out I decided to give this one a go. It had some big shoes to fill. But so far, so good. It’s got quite an oily feel to it. But I quite like it as feels quite soothing on my always-dry under eye area. It’s a formula you have to shake to mix the two liquids to make it work and it does a great job at removing even waterproof mascara (I’ve been using the new Revlon mascara – the blue one  a lot and I have it in the waterproof formula). I haven’t tried on a lip product yet, the ultimate test would be if it can remove Rimmel Provocalips… the longest wearing lipstick I’ve tried so far! But for eye make-up it works a treat and will be one I use to the last drop.

Origins Make a Difference Plus+ Rejuvenating Treatment * (lookfantastic.com £33.25)

A light gel formula that feels fresh and light to apply, but doesn’t scrimp on moisture at the same time. I wouldn’t use it every night as tend to like to mix up something lighter with something more intense. But I do like how this is a ‘quick fix’ for fresh but hydrated skin. It also smells good and feels lovely to use. So no complaints on that front. If you have seriously dry skin then maybe not for you, but combination skin (mine at least) gives it a thumbs up. On a side note, remember when Origins was THE skincare products on every bloggers lips (and instagram?) feels like it’s gone a bit quiet from them recently?! Just me or are you still loving all things Origins – I am, I just realised not many other people seem to be quite as buzzing as they used to?!

Aurelia Skincare Refine & Polish Miracle Balm * (Net a Porter £57)

This is little tube I’m eeking every last drop out of before I admit defeat and realise it’s pretty much empty. But this is absolutely LOVELY. It’s a sort of thick balm with soft scrubby bits that scrub but not too harsh – the balm formula melts as you massage into skin. Much like the Clarins cleanser – but because it’s a little thicker it feels even more pampering/hydrating than the Clarins cleanser. It manages to feel almost like a scrub and a mask in one as it leaves skin so soft and smooth. This one is dreamy – and makes me want to repurchase and try more from Aurelia if this is just the first taste!

The body shop waterproof makeup remover is the best that I’ve used. I have this one and the normal regular one and I always go right for the waterproof one always. Little goes a long way because there is an oil, make sure to give it a little shake first. It’s amazing to get off long wearing lipsticks off too with out to much mess. I love also too it makes your skin feel soft and nice after.

I love the Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser, so I must give this one a go as well! I’ve been itching to try some Origins products as well, as I’ve heard such rave reviews about everything 🙂 Tavi xx

Great review, as usual 😉 Love your blog! Does the Aurelia balm have to be rinsed off? Tnx!

I really want to try the Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel now! I absolutely love the skincare range by Clarins – I’ve been using their Toning Lotion for Combination/Oily Skin since Christmas and it’s been doing so much good for my skin! I’m also loving their Cleansing Milk but once I finish that I think I’m going to pick up the Cleansing Gel for myself 🙂 xx
