Current Favourites

You may have noticed it’s been a tad quiet around these parts on the make-up front. That’s because I’ve fallen into one of my ‘ruts’ but this time, I’m actually quite happy in this rut and don’t see it as a bad thing. I always think it’s a bit funny when you’re told you’re stuck in a rut, it’s a bad thing and you need to get out. But if you look at it another way I’ve just found my groove not stuck in a rut at all. I’ve found a few staples that I’ve been loving (a few I’ve loved for a few months) and I’m using them on a daily basis. As much as I do still love trying loads of new product, I didn’t like how I was trying so much I just put things to the side after a single use when I want to use more up rather than feel like I’m ‘wasting’ products. So expect to see a few more posts about things I’m loving for a longer time rather than one use wonders. Probably more likely to see regular MVP’s that pop up all the time. SO on to the products.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These snaps were all taken on my recent weekend in Norfolk where I didn’t want to overpack as we were only going for a few days and I knew I wouldn’t be plastering on a full face of glam for walks on the beach and pub dinners. Which was totally fine by me. So I packed my favourites and go-to products that I’ve been loving.

I’ve been loving the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Foundation*. From the innovative packaging with built in (removable so washable) blender and the twist up tube so you dispense just the right amount. To the finish (natural with a bit of glow) and coverage (buildable) this may very well be a long term winner in the favourites category for me. I’ve dabbled with Double Wear Original in the past, but find it too heavy for my taste and go back to lighter options. This though is right up my street and with the added bonus of making it easy for on the go application, it’s love. I do tend to still use a flat top buffing brush to apply over the sponge applicator on the end if I have time/not doing it in the car as I did on Sunday… (as a passenger FYI, don’t blend and drive people).

Concealer wise I’m totally in love with the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer* (I blogged about this in more detail already on my Bright Eyes Post). It’s higher coverage than I usually go for around the eyes as in general the higher coverage = lines looking more prominent and I’d rather have dark circles than eyes if I have to choose. But with this, I don’t have to. Plus the double ended brush makes it a dream to apply. This is one of the products I’d wear on days where I want total minimal make-up – just this and mascara and good to go.

When I really want the base to last and no worry about shine I use my favourite MAC Prep & Prime Transparent Finishing Powder* . Just a light dusting all over to set and make sure it all stays in place without the dreaded T-Zone shine. For brows, I’ve just been keeping them in shape with a slick of the Benefit Ready Set Brow* – this stuff doesn’t budge.

For eyes my daily favourite has been the MAC 9x Shadow Palette * in the Burgundy shade. It has everything I want for day or night from a lighter shimmering champagne, to pale matte taupe or shimmering burgundy options. So I can just as easily go for a matte day look as a darker shimmering night time one. All in this tiny little compact. Well worth the price of £25 (used to be £30 but they’ve been reduced).

Mascara wise, my daily one lately has been the Benefit Roller Lash* – the best Benefit mascara in my opinion, better than the much-hyped ‘They’re Real’, which is good but not as good as Roller Lash.  I love that I can layer it up and it doesn’t clump. So can get a strong look, without going lumpy. Also works well with my straight lashes.

Occasionally I’ve been adding some liner to my waterline. Either opting for Burberry Effortless Kohl Liner* in black if I want a stronger look or Charlotte Tilbury Rock n Kohl in Barbarella Brown* for a more day time look.

For the cheeks I’m still using Clinique Cheek Pop in Melon Pop* – a peachy pink shade that has probably been my most used of 2016 so far. Which is why it baffles me that the flower is still in tact. Granted, I don’t tend to go heavy on the blusher but still – impressive. Another ‘most loved’ of 2016 has to be the fab Chantecaille HD Perfecting Bronzer * – this is my perfect bronzer. Not too dark, not too orange. Just perfect. The first bronzer I have EVER hit pan on.

Since we were away for our anniversary I chose to take a little throwback combination of the two scents I layered for our wedding day. I absolutely adore this combination, one because I love the scents together and two because it just brings memories of the day flooding back. I wore a combination of Jo Malone Orange Blossom * and White Jasmine and Mint *. It’s a fairly unusual combination but something about it just works for me. And who doesn’t want a unique fragrance for their wedding day?! It’s lovely that I can spritz these on and the memories come back. Something I plan to do every anniversary.

So there we have a sort of August/anniversary special edition of favourites. What I would love to know is are you sticking with a few products you love right now or changing things up regularly? Part of me loves sticking with a few I love, but part of me wants to throw something unusual in there too to make a change!
