The best budget skincare

I love skincare, at the moment it’s very much by beauty junkie obsession of choice. With the reason being that if my skin is looking good then I can put less makeup on. Which makes day to day a little easier and that for me is a total win. Whilst I also love some of the more premium brands, I am also a big advocate that skincare does NOT have to be expensive to be good. Here’s the beauty junkie round up of the best budget skincare.

The ‘OG’ of the whole ‘cheap good skincare’ thing has to be The Ordinary. If ever there was a brand who shook up the skincare industry I would say this is it. Taking the key ingredients, demystifying them and selling them for a reasonable cost. They really captured something special and it’s not surprising they have some of the best affordable products out there.

My personal favourite from The Ordinary is the 30% AHA + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. The scary looking blood-like formula applies to the face and tingles away, giving a good exfoliation in just a few minutes (no more than 10) to leave skin feeling fresh and glow. I also really like the texture of The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser – a great option if you want a cleanser with added hydrating.

As an industry, when a brand does something good there are usually a few that follow in their footsteps. The perfect example of this is The Inkey List. Another brand that is taking skincare back to basics, focussing on those key ingredients that work and making them simple and affordable. The stand out for me from The Inkey List is the Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Lightweight, immediately hydrating and my skin just drinks it up. I’ve heard good things about the caffeine eye cream too but I tend to opt for moisture over the brightening/depuffing effect of caffeine.

Primark is also a bit of a gem for skincare, thanks to the collaboration with Alex Steinherr (former Glamour Beauty Editor). There’s a serum/moisturiser hybrid that’s a bit of a dupe for one of my favourite Kate Somerville products. Plus an on the go moisture serum that’s a handbag essential. My one criticism of this range is that I do find the packaging to be a bit excessive – some of them having the product packaging, plus a plastic casing to hold it in place and display in a card box. I get it, they need to be able to protect and ship product but three layers seems excessive in today’s climate.

Then I have to give a big old mention of the brand I’m a bit obsessed with. BeautyPie. I’ve been so impressed since I signed up myself. I wrote in more detail about the membership on my six months BeautyPie membership review. but as for products. Once you get your head around how the membership works, they’re pretty affordable. My favourite products so far from them all come in under £15.

I have a pretty extensive list of favourites but three of the stand out ones are the Uber Youth Eye Cream – amazing light texture that instantly hydrates but feels fresh at the same time. The Triple Hyaluronic Acid Serum – light a big old drink for skin and perfect for daytime under makeup. Then the Superdrops Hugh Intensity Hydration Serum – a sort of thicker serum, almost oil but without a hint of that oil ‘slick’ feeling. I could go on with a load more recommendations but I’ll just leave it as saying that BeautyPie is a great options for quality but affordable skincare.

If you do want to try BeautyPie I do have a referral link so you can get a month free: BeautyPie.com/referral

The Inkey List just blows my mind to be honest i would say they are 10 times better than the ordinary because they actually put out fully fleshed out products unlike the ordinary who just seems to put out single ingredient serums not to mention the science mumbo jumbo they need trying to be necessarily scientific.

I had this thought the other day – the Inkey list seems like it’s clearly targeting a knowledgable skincare consumer as it relies on them having an understanding of exactly what the products are and why they will benefit or be suitable. I’ve really enjoyed all the products I’ve tried from them so far.

  2. I love so many of the products mentioned – especially the Ordinary peel, Inkey List HA and Beauty Pie eye cream 🙂 I also really rate the lip mask from Alex’s range with Primark – reminds me a lot of the Laneige
