It’s candle season again. Oh how I love candle season. My obsession with candles is becoming more and more intense on a daily basis. There are candles in almost every room of our flat. I have different ones burning at different times – and lighting a candle is now almost as routine as turning the light on at night. It just doesn’t feel right until they’re on and filling the room with relaxing/refreshing scents and that lovely candle glow. I have three Autumn Candles here that I am loving at the moment, each of which are dotted around the flat as they each work well in different rooms…
In the office: Neom Focus The Mind (from £16 online)
As much as I love working from home, from time to time you need a little kick up the bum to concentrate on what needs to get done work-wise instead of getting distracted by
Daily Mail Online housework or playing with the puppy. This is the candle that does the trick – it’s fresh, and like a lung full of fresh air (except it smells much better than a lung full of London air). The Pine, Cedarwood and Eucalyptus combine so this smells Christmassy enough to feel good for this time of year but general enough to not feel like you’re working in Santa’s Grotto. I’m also loving the new look for Neon – they have some gorgeous gift stuff this season that is firming on my wish list (see, candle obsession kicking in again).
In the living room: Rachel Vosper Choisya (from £34 online)
I recently discovered Rachel Vosper of Belgravia Candles when exploring Knightsbridge/Belgravia as part of an Instawalk with The Park Tower Hotel. More on this soon as it was a fascinating day and a bit but one of my favourite moments was pouring my own candle (this one!) with Rachel’s gorgeously scented blend of wax. This fragrance is called Choisya and is one of the top sellers for Rachel. The scent is Mexican Blood Orange and it’s that gorgeously warming but refreshing scent that’s just perfect for something that’s relaxing/comforting, but won’t mean you’re so zoned out you nod off.
In the bedroom: Illuminum What Datura Candle (From £25 online)
This one is a beauty. Standing out in it’s black cube shape against the others – it’s a scent that is honestly a bit intoxicating. It had that thing that really captures a memory moment, but I couldn’t put my finger on what it reminds me of. But that power alone has me hooked. Even just giving it a good sniff now as I type and it sparks something – I just wish I could recall what it was?! Maybe it’s more an emotion rather than a memory specifically. The fragrance combines Bergamot, Cardamon, Indian Jasmine, Patchouli, White Datura Oil, Musk and Vanilla. It’s a heady combination, and maybe not one for the faint of heart. But I love it. Having read a bit about the fragrance is describes White Datura Oil as having ‘legendary hypnotic qualities’ – which I can believe! It really does have that perfect zone-out sort of sleepy scent to it. Perfect when chilling out maybe having a little read before sleep. Just don’t fall asleep with it still burning!
