Emergency car makeup

I wrote a little thing recently that will be popping up here very soon (as soon as I manage to snap the photos for it) all about how my relationship with beauty and makeup has changed a little over the past few months. One of the things I talk about is my new ’emergency car makeup’, which I was sitting in the car the other day whilst Ella was snoozing and decided to capture a few shots to explain a little more about what it is.

So, emergency car makeup – what is it and why is it a thing for me? It’s my tiny little mum-life hack that means that when I have to put almost everything ahead of putting some makeup on my face sometimes I have to dash out the house with the million bags required for baby life, plus dogs and all their stuff. Never mind mine. It’s a juggling act at the best of times, but knowing that Ella happily tends to snooze in the car I know that can be a place I can grab 5-10 minutes of hands-free time to apply makeup/read emails/reply to whatsapp messages etc so I’ve pulled together a little makeup bag that I now stash in the glove compartment so I know when I get in the car I can always use this time to take my look from zombie to human before I get to my destination.

I know, it’s hardly like I’ve split the atom in levels of genius here. But it’s these little tricks that help me feel like each day I have little wins here and there even when so much of day to day life has changed.

So what’s in the bag? An edit of simple, quick and easy products that I trust to work with minimal/zero fuss or hassle.

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue – I talked about much I love it in a dedicated post (here). I’ve recently had a new tube of this so my already open one is in the car.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination – A brightening under eye concealer. This bad boy works wonders on sleep-deprived dark circles. Mega-brightening and can very much recommend.

L’Oreal Paradise Extatic Mascara – A fluffy brish and super-black formula, this is a reliable lash-win mascara.

Benefit Hervana Powder – A multi-shade swirl blusher with just a hint of glow to it. Really perks up cheeks without risking looking like I’ve gone over board. I sometimes use just a sweep of this on my eyes too.

Benefit Gimme Brow – I adore this as a super-speedy brow tamer & tint. Takes brows from unruly and patchy colour to neat and with a hint of tint.

I also have a handful of brushes so I’m not doing all this with my fingers. My favourite multi-task brush being the double ended complexion brush from IT cosmetics with a small buffing brush and a larger one. The small is perfect for blending into corners and the larger for all over complexion blending. Perfect for evening out my skin quickly and easily with the products in my emergency car makeup bag.

All in all, a pretty simple selection of products for a quick and easy face all housed in a perfectly handy Glossier pouch, ready to be grabbed and applied super-fast when parked safely of course… not on the move!

That’s a really good idea. I used to always carry around emergency concealer in my bag.
