Ok, I feel a bit late to the party making this reference but is it just me or does this collection just scream Coachella cool? Ok, maybe all festivals – but the colours and the packaging just fit so perfectly with the ‘Coachella look’ to me. These are a couple of the items from the Smashbox Santigold Collection – apparently Santigold is a long time friend of the brand and it felt like a good match to collaborate and this is the end result.
The collection is a sort of 70’s Disco meets Indiana Jones type of mixture…with mayan temples and snake prints being combined with shimmering jewel toned colours and glam metallics. The colours are bold and bright, but with enough of a natural edge to them to keep them on the wearable side. VERY festival friendly – hence the Coachella reference at the start.
There are actually two palettes – the other has bold blues, metallic greens and shimmering aubergine shades – but happily this is my favourite as I really like the golden and pewter metallics and can even see myself wearing the metallic turquoise shade too. I even don’t find myself freaked out by the snake pattern – which as someone who hates snakes, this is kindof a big deal. Texture wise, the shadows are silky smooth, and feel very light – the pigment is good on the larger pans but slightly harder to pick up on the smaller shapes (the snake eyes) although I swatch with my fingers and this could be easier with a brush.
Then there’s the gorgeous orange toned red gloss – this definitely appeals to me with my current obsession for all orange/red lip products. The gloss is sheer – and a good ‘easy’ way to wear this sort of shade if the full-on opaque lip is a bit on the intimidating. This will look fab on both pale and tanned skintones in my opinion – I am yet to find someone I don’t think suits an orange red lip. Maybe that’s the obession talking, but I really do think they look amazing on everyone I’ve seen wear it. So if you want to give that little trend a go – then try this one first as a low maintenance option.
Also in the collection are a selection of pretty stunning nail wraps – they look gorgeous, but I’m a bit of a fail when it comes to applying nail wraps. But if you’re more talented than me (not hard) then check these out as the designs are stunning. Then there are some *amazing* lipstick rings – real statement pieces, with a limited edition design that opens to reveal the lipstick. Then there’s a gold gloss and two double ended liners (one turquoise and gold and one green and yellow – not for the faint hearted).
Overall this is the sort of collection that is mostly for the brave of the make-up world – but some really gorgeous pieces. This palette and gloss are definitely the ‘safer’ options from the collection for those that maybe like to just play with more subtle colours than dive head first into yellow eyeliner! But if you do dare – then more power to you!
